CLOSE QUARTER BATTLE (CQB)
• Close Quarters Battle (CQB) or close quarters
combat (CQC) is a type of fighting in which small
units engage the enemy with personal weapons
at very short range, potentially to the point of
hand-to-hand combat or fighting with hand
weapons such as swords or knives.
• Close quarters battle applies to a physical
confrontation between a crisis response team
and a terrorist group that occurs at short range
(i.e., close quarters), such as in a building or
vehicle
• Typically during close quarters battle, a crisis
response team conducts a rapid, physical
assault on a building or vehicle that is
controlled by terrorists to neutralize the
threat and save lives.

• CQB is defined as a short-duration, high-

intensity conflict, characterized by sudden
violence at close range.
