MODULE INFORMATION
1. FC701 Extended Project
• Credits: 30

• Class Contact: 2 x 2 hours sessions per week

• Delivery:
– Discover: You are required to look at materials prior to seminars. These
will include videos and articles that will provide information that will
assist you during the seminar.
– Develop: In seminars you are expected to work in pairs/groups on class
activities and tasks to achieve learning outcomes. These will include
completing worksheets together; have discussions; evaluating peers’
work
– Do: 11 hours/week (!) to complete homework and independent work to
complete assignments
1. FC701 Extended Project
• Credits: 30

– End of cycle 1-1 meetings with tutors/workshops: Discuss
and ask questions about your work on the Extended Project
– Lesson materials: Word documents with class activities
and lesson PPTs. Online quizzes and videos. No textbook.
– Academic Support Sessions (optional): Check VLE (GIC
Learning Support page) for drop-in session dates/times.
2. What is the Extended Project
• The Extended Project is an independent
research project on a topic of current academic
interest and relevance chosen by you, the
student.
• Your chosen topic has to:
• (a) align with your pathway programme or
degree specialism.
• (b) be approved by your class tutor.
3. Module aims
• To become familiar with the conventions and
purpose of extended projects as a genre of
academic research
• To become familiar with the process and
stages of producing an extended project report
• To learn how to propose, develop and
conduct an extended project on a topic of
interest related to your pathways programme
or future studies.

SUMMATIVE TASK 1.
Project Presentation (Term 1)
• As a conclusion to your first term, you will give a five-minute formal presentation
(plus two minutes for questions) to your module tutor and class. The aim of this
presentation is to explain your chosen topic for the Extended Project, which you have
further revised through Formative Task 1 & 2.

• You are required to:


– provide your audience with key information about this project (i.e. what the rationale, aims
and scope of the project are),
– summarise 2-3 relevant and appropriate sources, and
– reflect on your progress so far in the Extended Project

You must support your presentation using visual aids (e.g. PowerPoint) and include at
least one piece of graphical data.

information about the content and structure of the Extended Project Presentation.
SUMMATIVE TASK 2 (Term 2): Written Report (2,500 words)

• This is brief a summary which focuses on the purpose, findings and
