Sudden Cardiac
Arrest
What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest
(SCA)?
• Electrical failure in the heart - Heart
fibrillates/quivers and stops pumping blood
• Victim loses consciousness and collapses
almost immediately
• Victim is completely unresponsive, pale
and
not breathing
• If not treated, a victim’s chances of survival
decreases by 10% for every passing minute
• SCA can happen to anyone, anytime and
anywhere
What Impacts
Survival?

Time to CPR

Time to
Defibrillation

CPR Quality
What Does CPR
Do?
CPR ‘slows down’ the time it takes the victim to
become ‘irretrievably dead’
High Quality CPR is SOOOO
With NO CPR the
important! chances of survival
diminish 10% for
every minute that
passes from collapse

With “High Quality

CPR” the victims
chance of survival
diminishes by only 3
to 4% every minute
High-quality CPR can “buy time” for a cardiac arrest victim
and is the single most important factor when it comes to surviving a cardiac arrest
until they receive a defibrillator shock, as well as determining if a patient will survive neurologically intact
What is High-Quality
CPR?
Chest compression rate 100-120
compressions/minute
Chest compression depth 5-6
centimetres
Minimize interruptions in chest
compressions (< 10 seconds)
Allow complete chest recoil
Ratio of compressions to rescue breath
(30:2) – lay rescuers may perform
compression-only CPR in adult victims
Research from last few decades have shown that half the time in a SCA
collapse, an AED will advise ‘No Shock’.
In a ‘No Shock’ SCA case, the most helpful thing the rescuer can do for the
victim is to perform continuing, vigorous and precise CPR.

In SCA Victims:
50% needs shocking

100% needs CPR

ZOLL AED
PLUS®
The First AED With Real- SMART

Time CPR Feedback

The AED Plus sets the benchmark with clinically
proven, integrated, real-time CPR feedback - Real CPR Help®
• Compression depth indicator gives real-time feedback on
CPR
depth and rate
• Audio & text prompts for proper compression depth
Single-Piece Pad SMART

Design
Unique electrode pad design ensures easy and accurate placement

One-Piece Pad Design

• Helps ensure proper pad placement to focus energy on the heart
• Peel-in-place application helps prevent mishandling

CPR Landmark - Large red cross

provides guideline-compliant hand
placement during CPR compressions

Long Lasting - CPR-D adult

electrodes last an industry-leading
five (5) years
Unique Pediatric SMART

Support
Because children are not just little adults

Child specific analysis algorithm

• Children have different types and characteristics of

shockable and non-shockable ECG rhythms from adults
• ZOLL has developed a dedicated pediatric AED
arrhythmia analysis algorithm that accurately
differentiates shockable vs. non-shockable pediatric
rhythms
• Safer defibrillation - ZOLL AEDs do not just attenuate
adult energy for a child victim
Long Lasting READY

Consumables
The lowest price AED isn’t always the least expensive
Lowest Cost of Ownership
• Uses less expensive, off-the-shelf, lithium 123A
batteries which last (five) 5 years

Less Maintenance
• Five (5) year battery and pad life mean fewer
replacements, less maintenance and increased
AED readiness.

AED Plus
 Real CPR Help includes real-time, guideline-driven feedback with visual and audio
prompts that help deliver high-quality CPR compressions.

 CPR-D-padz® is the industry’s only single-

piece, peel-in-place adult electrode pad
includes a CPR landmark for proper hand
placement during CPR compressions.

 Unique Pediatric Support allows children

to be given child-specific treatment

 Long Lasting Consumables have five (5)

year battery and pad life resulting in fewer
replacements, less maintenance and
increased AED readiness.
