Introduction to treatment
guidelines[STG]
Defined
as systemically developed statements to help
practitioners or prescribers make decision
about appropriate treatments for specific
clinical condition.
STGs or treatment protocol are
proven ,effective strategy to promote their
use.
As minimum they should contain information
on clinical features ,diagnostic criteria ,non
drug treatments and drug treatments [first ,
second and third lines ]and referral criteria.
The importance of treatment
guideline STGs.
Providing guidance to health
professionals on diagnosis and treatments
of specific clinical condition.
Orienting new staff about accepted norms
in treatments.
Providing prescribers with justification for
prescribing.
Providing a reference point by which to
judge the quality of prescribing.
Aiding efficient estimation of drug needs a
setting priorities for procuring and
stocking drugs.
