System Overview
• Lube Oil System

• Purpose: -
– Lubrication and cooling of the turbine and generator
bearings with turbine oil drawn from the main oil tank
by the oil pumps and forwarded via cooler and filter to
the bearings; pressures and flow rates are set with
throttle valves.
– Supplying motive oil to turning gear.
– Backflow of the turbine oil to main oil tank.

Lube Oil System Pre checks:

1. No concern PTW is pending.

2. Fire fighting for lube oil system must be charged condition.
3. Ensure MOT level is adequate and no “tank level low” alarm persisting.
4. Ensure all drains of MOT, Lube oil coolers and filters, are closed and vents opened.
5. Ensure either of Lube oil coolers are lined - up from both oil and DMCW side.
6. Ensure any one filter is lined-up.
7. AOP1, AOP2, EOP, AC JOP, DC JOP, OVEF power supplies are healthy and in
remote. DC oil pumps (EOP, DC JOP) supplies are to be normalised just before
starting, to avoid any unwanted leakage of oil if system is not lined up properly.
8. Discharge MIVs for AC JOP and DC JOP should be full open and filter is lined-up.
9. Ensure all local gauges & transmitters are in service and charged.
10. All local push buttons are released.
11. Ensure individual isolation MIV of Jacking oil line for all bearings is open.
12. Ensure Lube oil temperature control valve power supply is healthy and in remote.

- * - 9
Turbine Oil system start-up activities:

1. Start one Vapour exactor fan.

2. First start EOP and ensure there is no leakage in the
entire lube oil system. Keep running
3. Ensure pressure is built-up in Turbine lube oil
header(>2.5 kg/cm2)
4. Check for any oil leakage in the system. If found,
immediately Stop the pump and inform TMD.
5. Start AOP1 and also take trial ofAOP2,if running normal
then stop AOP2.
6. Start AC JOP pump and observe discharge pressure is
built up to 160 kg/cm2to 170 kg/cm2

- * - 10
Turbine Oil system start-up activities:

7. Take DC JOP trial if AC JOP is running normal.

8. Put lube oil temp control in auto and set point
as 45 degC.
9. Open barring gear MOV and ensure speed is
rising slowly.
10. Check whether speed has reached around 80
RPM.
11. PUT SLC ‘ON’ for AOP, EOP, JOP, Turning
gear ‘ON’.
12. Check for any oil leakage in the system.

- * - 11
Turbine oil system stopping procedure:

• Close barring gear MOV from DCS.

• Check that MOT level is rising.
• Ensure turbine speed is reducing to zero speed.
• Ensure all SLC is in ‘OFF’ condition.
• Stop AC JOP.
• Stop running AOP and check MOT level is increasing.

Initial filling of seal oil line:

• Open Seal Oil Storage Tank (SOST) outlet valve (MKW01AA276) to seal oil system for initial
filling.
• OPEN Vacuum tank inlet MIV (MKW10AA101) and check vacuum tank level is rising and
maintained up to 60%.
• OPEN intermediate oil tank inlet valve (MKW06AA151) and check vacuum tank level is rising
and maintained up to 60%.
• OPEN inlet valves (MKW11AA261, MKW12AA261) and outlet valves (MKW11AA051,
MKW12AA051) of both AC pumps.
• OPEN inlet valve (MKW01AA286, MKW13AA261) and outlet valve (MKW13AA051) for DC
pump.
• Charge both seal oil coolers from oil side by keeping rotary transfer valve (MKW21AA151) in
centre position.
• Open oil side vent valves (MKW21AA251, MKW22AA251) provided on both coolers. Close vent
valves when oil emerges without bubbles.
• After Proper venting isolate one cooler from oil side and another oil cooler should be taken in to
service.
• Open inlet & outlet isolation MIV of oil cooler (DMCW side) and close the vents after proper
venting.
• Charge both filters one by one by opening inlet and outlet valves and after proper venting their
vents should be closed.
- * - 27
Pre-checks before start-up of Seal oil Pump:

• Cooling water for seal oil cooler is established.

• Oil cooler is charged from DMCW side & oil side and proper
venting is done.
• Power supplies for Vacuum pumps and seal oil pumps are
normalized.

- * - 28
Start-up of Seal oil Pump:

1. Start DC Seal oil pump for trial and line filling.

2. Check for any abnormal sound from DC seal oil pump.
3. Check pump discharge pressure is more than 10 kg/cm2.
4. Wait till pressure in pressure gauge after seal oil filter is showing steady
reading.
5. If DC seal oil pump running healthy, Start AC seal oil pump and stop DC seal oil
pump.
6. Again, check for any abnormal sound from AC seal oil pump.
7. If seal oil pump header pressure is maintaining more than 10 kg/cm2. Open
isolation MIV (MKW14AA051) for oil coming from turbine lube oil system.
8. While filling CO2 in generator ensure than seal oil pressure is increasing to
maintain DP up to 1.3 to 1.8 kg/cm2 and ring relief oil pressure is at least 1
kg/cm2 above seal oil pressure
9. Start one vacuum pump provided in seal oil skid and put other pump on
standby.
10. Check vacuum is developing in vacuum tank and maintained around >0.12 abs.
