→These principles describe the direction of growth
and development. The head region starts to grow at
first, following which other organs start developing.
The child gains control of the headfirst, then the arms
and then the legs.
→ Infant development control of the head and face
movement for the first two months. In the next few
months they are able to lift themselves up by using
their arms. The next game controls the lower leg and
is able to crawl, stand, work,

Cephalocaudal Patterns
•It is a postnatal growth from conception to
5 months when the head grows more than
any part of the body.
•The movement of the pattern starts from
head down to the toe.
•The infant learns to use their upper limbs

●Development of motor skills to start at
central body parts to outwards. That is why,
in the beginning, the child is seen to
exercise control over the large fundamental
muscles of the arm and then hand and only
afterwards over the smaller muscles of the
fingers. 9

Physical Development -Refers to biological
changes that children undergo as they age.
Includes physical and brain change;
development of reflexes, motor skills,
sensation, perceptions, learning skills; and
health issues.

Principle of General to Specific
Development
●A child learns the general things at the
initial levels but later on with the passage
of growth, the child begins to learn specific
things with names and with different
identities. For example, a child grabs
everything in a careless manner but later
on, the child starts holding
