Absinthe is made by redistilling
neutral alcohol with botanicals
—the “holy trinity” is
wormwood, anise, and fennel—
to create a concentrated, high-
proof spirit. Other ingredients
that are commonly added
include hyssop, melissa, star
anise, and lemon balm.
Producers then reinfuse the
spirit with more of these
botanicals to give it its
characteristic green hue.
(Sometimes producers skip this
step, which results in “white”
absinthe.)
Advocaat is a traditional
Dutch alcoholic
beverage (eggnock
liqueur) made from eggs
, sugar, and brandy.
The rich and creamy
drink has a smooth,
custard-like consistency.
The typical alcohol
content is generally
between 14% and 20%
ABV.
Aquavit is a
Scandinavian spirit
distilled from potatoes
or grains that’s flavored
with caraway or dill and
other aromatics like
citrus peel and whole
spices.
The European Union
(EU) law requires that
caraway and/or dill are
included, though other
herbs, spices, and citrus
flavorings are allowed.
Among those are anise,
cardamom, citrus peel,
clove, juniper,
coriander, cumin, and
fennel.
Amaretto (Italian for "a
little bitter") is a sweet
Italian liqueur that
originated in Saronno.
Depending on the brand, it
may be made from
apricot kernels,
bitter almonds, peach
stones, or almonds, all of
which are natural sources
of the benzaldehyde that
provides the almond-like
flavour of the liqueur. It
generally contains 21 to 28
percent alcohol by volume.
Amer Picon – an orange flavoured French aperatif made with quinine and
spices.
Anisette, or Anis, is an anise-
flavored liqueur that is
consumed in most
Mediterranean countries.
It is colorless, and because it
contains sugar, is sweeter than
dry anise flavoured spirits
(e.g. absinthe).
Benedictine – a Cognac
base blended with secret
herb formula. First made
by the Benedictine monks
in France.
B&B- a mix of
Benedictine and brandy.
The most popular types of
bitters are Angostura bitters,
Peychaud's bitters, and
orange bitters.
The
Angostura story began in
Angostura, Venezuela.
Chambord is the brand
name for a famous French
black raspberry liqueur
with a cognac base.
Campari is an Italian
alcoholic liqueur, considered
an apéritif , depending on the,
obtained from the infusion of
herbs and fruit (including
chinotto and cascarilla) in
alcohol and water. It is a type
of bitters, characterised by its
dark red colour.
Chartreuse – French spicy, herb-
flavoured, brandy-basd liqueur,
available in both green and yellow.
Green is dryer then yellow.
It is composed of distilled alcohol
aged with 130 herbs, plants and
flowers.
Crème de cacao is a liqueur
made from cocoa beans.
Depending on the type of
production, it can be white
(blanc) or dark (brun), and it is
often additionally flavored with
vanilla. The dark version
usually has a more intense
flavor.
It is presumed that this liqueur
style was created in France
and that it first appeared in
Crème de cassis (also known as Cassis liqueur) is a sweet,
dark red liqueur made from blackcurrants.
Crème de menthe is an emerald
green, sweet mint-flavored
liqueur. There’s also a “white
creme de menthe” that is
colorless but has the same flavor.
Crème de menthe was invented in
France.
Curacao – an orange flavoured
liqueur made from dried orange
peels.
Drambuie is a sweet, gold-
colored liqueur with a Scotch
whisky base that is accented
with the flavors of Scottish
heather honey, herbs, and
spices. It's produced in Scotland.
Dubonnet is a sweet,
aromatised wine-based quinquina,
often enjoyed as an aperitif. It is a
blend of fortified wine, herbs, and
spices (including a small amount of
quinine), with fermentation being
stopped by the addition of alcohol.
The beverage is famous in the UK for
having been the favourite drink of
Queen Elizabeth II and
Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.
Frangelico is the brand name for a
popular Italian hazelnut-flavored liqueur.
Made from an infusion of toasted
hazelnuts, the liqueur includes natural
flavorings like cocoa and vanilla to give it a
complex, delicious taste.
Galliano L'Autentico is a popular
Italian liqueur with a golden yellow
color. The unique herbal flavor
medley is dominated by vanilla and
anise, though its taste is complex.
Grand Marnier is a French brand
of liqueurs. The brand's best-known
product is Grand Marnier Cordon
Rouge, an orange-flavored liqueur
created in 1880 by
Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle. It is
made from a blend of
Cognac brandy, distilled essence
of bitter orange, and sugar,
containing 40% alcohol.
Grappa is made by distilling
the pomace (a blend of
grape seeds, stalks, and
stems) leftover from the
wine-making process.
It contains 37.5 to 60
percent alcohol by volume!
Irish Mist is an Irish whiskey
-based liqueur produced in
Tullamore, Ireland.
It is made from aged
Irish whiskey, heather and
clover honey, aromatic herbs
, and other spirits, blended
to an ancient recipe claimed
to be 1,000 years old.Though
it was once 80 US proof (40%
alcohol per volume), Irish
Mist is now 35% or 70 US
Jägermeister is a
German liqueur,
digestif made with 56
herbs and spices.
Kummel is a herbal liqueur flavoured with caraway
seeds, cumin, fennel, orris and other herbs. The
origins of this liqueur's name lie in the generic names for
the key spices with which it is flavoured. In German,
caraway seed is called Kümmel while cumin is
Lillet is a French aromatized aperitif wine
made with a blend of Bordeaux grapes
and fortified with a blend of citrus
liqueurs. There are three varieties to
choose from: Lillet Blanc (made with
Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon grapes),
Lillet Rosé (a blend of Merlot,
Cabernet Sauvignon and Sémillon grapes)
and Lillet Rouge (Merlot and Cabernet
Sauvignon).
Lillet’s 17% alcohol by volume (abv) is
higher than a typical glass of wine.
Metaxa is a distilled spirit made in
Greece from brandy and wine
from sun-dried grapes, blended
with Muscat wine.
The spirit is a brown, rich, and
earthy beverage made using a
complex, secret recipe featuring
Greek grapes and spices. It is
usually served on the rocks, neat,
or mixed with sours.
Midori
Midori is a popular brand of melon-
flavored liqueur. It's instantly
recognizable as the bright green bottle
that shines behind many bars across
the world.
Originally produced in Japan by Suntory,
it is a sweet liqueur made with neutral
grain spirit, brandy, and sugar.
Ouzo is an anise-flavored liquor produced
from grape must (the remnants of wine-
making). It can only be made in Greece and
Cyprus and may include other spices beyond
anise.
Peppermint schnapps is a
distilled spirit made by adding
peppermint flavoring to a clear
grain spirit. It tastes like a liquid
candy cane, with an astringent,
almost mouthwash-like finish.
Most sources believe the original
version originated in Germany
(in German the
term Schnaps means a strong
alcoholic beverage).
Pernod aka Pernod Anise is a French anise-
flavored liqueur invented in 1920, after absinthe
was banned in 1915. Making it without wormwood
made it a legal liquor.
Pernod is made with star anise, fennel, and other
herbs and botanicals. The anise or black licorice
flavor is very strong
Pimm's is an English brand of gin-
based fruit cup but may also be
considered a liqueur or the basis of a
sling or punch.
Sambuca is a clear Italian
liqueur that is primarily
produced with anise and is
often enjoyed as a digestif
after a meal.
Often served straight up in a
snifter with three cofee.beans.
Sloe gin is a British red
liqueur made with gin
and sloes. Sloes are the
fruit (drupe) of Prunus
spinosa, the blackthorn
plant, a relative of the
Southern Comfort is an American,
naturally fruit-flavored, whiskey liqueur
with fruit and spice accents.
Bourbon with peach liqueur and frech
peaches.
Strega
Strega Liqueur is an herbal Italian
liqueur with a unique flavor and a
distinctive bright yellow color. It's a
digestif (or amaro) made from a
secret recipe that includes about 70
botanicals, most notably saffron,
mint, and juniper berries.
It hails from the town of Benevento,
Italy and is also known as the
"witches liqueur." A very popular
liqueur in Italy.
Tuaca is unique blend of Italian brandy with
vanilla and Mediterranean citrus was born
during the Italian Renaissance.
Vandermint is a minted chocolate
Liqueur imported from Holland.
The liqueur is a lush blend of rich
cocoa and a hint of fresh mint.
Vermouth is a fortified wine that is
flavored with a variety of herbs and
spices. It is traditionally made in two
major styles: dry (white) vermouth and
sweet (red) vermouth.
Dry vermouth, originating in France, is
famously used to make martinis and is
dry and floral.
Sweet vermouth usually comes from
Italy, is sweet, spiced, and herbal, and
is used in cocktails like Manhattans and
negronis. Dry and sweet vermouths are
also enjoyed as an aperitif.
Wild turkey

Yukon Jack is a Canadian
honey based liqueur, made
from Canadian Whisky and
honey, advertised as “The Black
Sheep of Canadian Liquors”.
Cachaça is a distilled spirit made
from fermented sugarcane juice. Also
known as pinga, caninha, and other
names, it is the most popular spirit
among distilled alcoholic beverages
in Brazil.
Outside Brazil, cachaça is used
almost exclusively as an ingredient in
tropical drinks, with the caipirinha
being the most famous cocktail.
Grenadine is a commonly used nonalcoholic bar syrup characterized
by its deep red color.
Originally, grenadine was made with a base of pomegranate juice,
which is how it got its name — the French word for pomegranate is grenade.
Maraschino is a liqueur obtained from
the distillation of Marasca cherries.
Apricot
brandy can refer
to a liquor
distilled from
fermented apricot
juice or a liqueur

Dirty: With olive juice or brine. Having your drink dirty brings a salty, olive-y,
flavor and makes it a little cloudy looking. Good if you don't like the taste of

Dry: Drizzle of vermouth. Extra dry means even less vermouth, as in, a splash.
Wet: More than a drizzle of vermouth.
Sweet: Sweet vermouth instead of dry vermouth.
Perfect: Equal parts sweet and dry vermouth for a balanced flavor.
Neat: Alcohol poured straight from the bottle. No vermouth. No chilling. You don't
mess around.
With a twist: Lemon peel added as a garnish.
With an olive (or two or three): This is exactly what it sounds like. Also, you
