DESCRIPTIVE WRITING Creates a picture in your mind. Relives an experience. Contains specific, interesting, or details. Stays true to the original. Uses sensory words and phrases. NARRATIVE WRITING Decide on the main events (plot). Describe the setting with visual details. Create interesting characters. Build toward an important turning point. Resolve the conflict or problem in the story. PERSONAL WRITING Use your writing to think through important ideas. Be honest. Journals, plays, letters, poems, notes, stories. Capture special moments. Write about something of interest to you. Experiment with new ways to express yourself. IMAGINATIVE WRITING Choose a unique idea. Take a reader by surprise! Include original details to get the reader’s imagination going. Give your reader something interesting to think about!
