About the Author
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the renowned Scottish
physician and writer, was born on May 22,
1859, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Raised in a
Catholic family with Irish roots, Doyle was
educated at Stonyhurst College and the
University of Edinburgh, where he studied
medicine.

After setting up his own medical practice in


Southsea, Hampshire, he served as a ship's
doctor on a whaling vessel, which later inspired
his writing. Doyle's writing career began while
he was still studying medicine, and his first
Sherlock Holmes story, "A Study in Scarlet," was
published in 1887. He went on to write 56 short
stories and four novels featuring the iconic
detective, as well as historical novels, plays,
