BACKGROUND
What Came Before:
• There was a powerful kingdom called the Ghurid Empire.
• Qutb-ud-din Aibak was a trusted slave and general of
Muhammad Ghori, the ruler of the Ghurid Empire.
The Start of the Dynasty:
• After Muhammad Ghori's death in 1206, Qutb-ud-din Aibak
took control of the Indian territories.
• He declared himself the first ruler of the Slave Dynasty.

Who Was He?
• Qutb-ud-din Aibak was a former slave
who rose to become a king.
• He ruled from 1206 to 1210 CE.
What Did He Do?
• Made Delhi his capital.
• Started building of the famous Qutb Minar, a tall tower that
still stands today.
End of His Rule:
• He died in 1210 after falling from a horse while playing
polo.
ILTUTMISH
Who Was Iltutmish?
• Iltutmish was Qutb-ud-din Aibak's son-in-law
and became the next important ruler.
• He ruled from 1211 to 1236 CE.
What Did He Do?
• Fought many battles and made the kingdom stronger.
• Made new coins with Arabic writing on it.
• Declared Delhi as the main city of the kingdom.
• Chose his daughter, Razia Sultana, to be the next ruler,
breaking traditions.
RAZIA SULTANA
Who Was She?
• Razia Sultana was the first and only woman
to rule the Delhi Sultanate.
• She ruled from 1236 to 1240 CE.
Challenges She Faced:
• Many people didn't accept her as a ruler because she was a
woman.
Her Downfall:
• Rival groups in the kingdom fought against her.
GHIYASUDDIN BALBAN
Who Was Balban?
• Balban was one of the strongest rulers
of the Slave Dynasty.
• He ruled from 1266 to 1287 CE.
What Did He Do?
• Focused on making the kingdom safe and strong.
• Fought against enemies and stopped rebellions.
• Believed that kings should be respected.
Legacy:
• Set up strict rules to make the government strong and
organized.

Why Did It End?
• After Balban's death, the rulers who came after him were
weak.
• There were fights among the leaders.
• In 1290, a new dynasty called the Khilji Dynasty took
over.
