DEFINITIONS OF KEY WORDS

•Native Species: An organism or

organisms that are currently living
in an area due to naturally occurring
acts without human involvement.
DEFINITIONS OF
KEYWORDS

•Invasive Species: a non-native

species that can cause harm to
the environment, economy,
human health, and more.
EXAMPLE OF HOW INTRUDERS ACT
AND EFFECT AN ECOSYSTEM AND ITS
ORGANISMS
This focuses on the New
Zealand from hundreds of
years ago and how humans
acted after intruding the
ecosystems.
EXAMPLE OF HOW INTRUDERS ACT IN
AN ECOSYSTEM.

Before there were humans, no predatory

mammals there. Many of the native
pieces of birds nest on the ground. There
were no predators to eat their eggs.
Making off spring be safe. It was as such
until the arrival of humans around seven
hundreds years ago.
EXAMPLE OF HOW INTRUDERS ACT IN
AN ECOSYSTEM.
When humans arrived, they intruded the
ecosystem by bringing in newer animals.
Rabbits and sheep being an example. But
with the introduction of those animals,
especially rabbits, stoats had to be
brought to deal with them as they rabbits
would eat the pastures made for sheep.
EXAMPLE OF HOW INTRUDERS ACT IN
ECOSYSTEM.

These stoats spread all over New

Zealand. And they started to populate
and also affected the ecosystems by
eating so many native species,
causing multiple other small animals
such as native birds, to go extinct.
EFFECTS OF INTRUDERS ON AN
ECOSYSTEM.
From the other slides, we’ve
seen how the Intruders acted,
multiplying, feeding, and such.
So let’s see the effects of their
actions on the ecosystem.
EFFECTS OF INTRUDERS ON AN
ECOSYSTEM.
• The death of native species: The
multiplication of foreign organisms like the
stoats led to the death of multiple different
native species due to the addition of
predators from the intruders (humans)
• The extinction of native species: The
arrival of the invasive species led to the
extinction of multiple native species due to
EFFECTS OF INTRUDERS ON AN
ECOSYSTEM.
• The death of off spring: As mentioned, before
the arrival of the intruders in the ecosystem, there
were no predators, until the arrival of the invasive
species which had eaten the off spring of the native
species, which also contributed to extinction.
• Consumption of organisms: As there was an
arrival, that means that the invasive species who
would’ve acted as predators and consumed
