 What are prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells?

Answer:
 Prokaryotic cells are the simplest organisms that
have only one cell, like bacteria. These cells do not
have a nucleus or internal compartments. While
eukaryotic cells are any cell or organism that
possesses a clearly defined nucleus.

ANIMAL CELL AND

PLANT CELL

BIOLOGY 1
LEARNING COMPETENCY

Describe the structures and functions

of major and subcellular organelles.
STEM_ BIO11/12 Ia-c-2

OBJECTIVE
Differentiate plant cell from animal cell
in terms of its structures and
functions.
ACTIVITY

Instruction:
1. The class will be divided into 2 groups.
2. Each group will be given a specific concept
called “Explore It!” and “Organize It!”
Explore It! Organize It!
1. Students will be working to better
understand plant and animal
cells.
1. Students will be given a set of
2. They will be comparing two
words and will organize them into
images of plant and animal cells
where they belong. (Animal Cell,
and will try to identify the

differences in terms of its
structures and functions.
2. There will be steps to follow
provided by the teacher.
3. There will be steps to follow
provided by the teacher and
record their observations on the
given strips.

QUESTIONS

01 How did you feel about the activity?

02 Are you familiar with animal cell and plant cell?

ANIMAL
CELL VS.
PLANT
CELL
• Plasma Membrane: The exterior of the cell.

• Cytoplasm: All organelles inside the cell float in the cytoplasm.

• Golgi Body or Complex: Lipids from the ER move
to the Golgi body where they get delivered to the
plasma membrane.

• Mitochondria: Mitochondria makes energy for the cell’s operations.

• Lysosomes: These cell organelles help the cell get
rid of waste.

• Nucleus: The nucleus provides the brains of the cell. It contains the nucleolus as
well.
• Endoplasmic Reticulum: Also known as the ER

• Vacuoles. Storage of structure in a cell.

• Centriole - plays a role in organizing microtubules that serve as
the cell's skeletal system.
• Cell wall. Gives a plant strength and stiffness.

• Chloroplasts. Produce energy from sunlight, water and carbon dioxide.

• Both plant and animal cells have all the above organelles, but plant cells
differentiate themselves from animal cells with the addition of some
other parts.

• The most significant difference between plant and animal cell
organelles are the cell wall, chloroplast and vacuole.
• In terms of their structure the plant cell has a square or
rectangular in shape while the animal cell has irregular or
round in shape.
GROUP ACTIVITY: “QUICK ACTION”
1. Look at the picture of animal cell and plant cell.

2. Answer these questions.

a. What is the main difference you see in the two types cell in terms of its structure? (1pts.)
b. What are the organelles present only in the plant cell? (2pts.)
c. What are the main organelle found in both animal cell and plant cell? (7pts.)

3. Write your answer in ½ sheet of paper.

a. What is the main difference you see in the two types cell in terms of its structure?
Answer: Animal cell has a spherical or round shape while plant cell has a rectangular
shape.

b. What are the organelles present only in the plant cell?

Answer: Chloroplasts and Cell wall

c. What are the main organelle found in both animal cell and plant cell?
Answer: Nucleus, cell membrane, ribosome, golgi body, endoplasmic reticulum,
