CEsA is one of the oldest research
centres dedicated to development
studies in Portugal. Established in
1983.
Integrated in the Centre for Research in
Social Sciences and Management
research consortium of ISEG, Lisbon
School of Economics and Management
(ISEG/ULisboa).
It also has close cooperation with both
the Masters in Development and
International Cooperation (MDCI) and
the PhD in Development Studies
(PDED) of ISEG/ULisboa.

• Title of Project: Sustainable agriculture in Nigeria: Understanding
the link between conflict (and terrorism) and climate change in
farmers' displacement and livelihood transformation.
• Project led by: Prof. Olayinka Ajala (Leeds Beckett University)
• Prof. Taibat Lawanson (University of Lagos)
• Professor Doctor Joseph Ochogwu (Institute for Peace and Conflict
Resolution, Nigeria)
• Nathaniel Awuapila (Center for Innovation and Research in Nigeria)
• Objective: To investigate to what extent factors such as climate
change, terrorism and conflicts between farmers and shepherds, have
contributed to forced displacements in Nigeria. It also aims to
understand how agricultural communities are transforming their
livelihoods.
• Results of the investigation, which highlights the experiences lived
by farmers, the reasons for forced migration and displacement and
the consequent transformation of livelihoods in Nigeria.
