Subject Verb Agreement With Quiz
1. If the subject is singular, the verb must be singular too. Third person
singular pronoun must take “s” form of the verb in the present tense.
Example: She writes everyday.
If the subject is personal pronoun “I” or “You”, the verb must NOT take “s” form
of the verb in the present tense.
Example: I write everyday.
You give the follower to her.
2. If the subject is plural, the verb must also be
plural.
Example: They write every day.
We talk important matters.
You decide where to go.
3. When the subject of the sentence is composed of two
or more nouns or pronouns connected by and, use a
plural verb.
Example: The doctoral student and the committee
members write everyday.
However, the plural verb is used if the focus is on the individuals in the
group. This is much less common.
Example: The committee participate in various volunteer activities in
their private lives
