MEXICO POPULATION
• The current population of Mexico is 132,816,779 as of
Thursday, May 18, 2023, based on Worldometer elaboration
of the latest United Nations data. The population of Mexico in
2022 was 127,504,125, a 0.63% increase from 2021.
• Mexico's population grew more than sixfold from 1910 to the
early 21st century. The rate of natural increase began to rise
rapidly in the 1940s because of marked improvements in
health care standards and food supplies.
MEXICO HISTORY
• In 1521, Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes conquered the
Aztecs and Mexico became a Spanish colony. For 300 years
Spain ruled the land until the early 1800s. At that time the
local Mexicans revolted against Spanish rule. Father Miguel
Hidalgo declared Mexico's independence with his famous cry
of "Viva Mexico".
• The most important historical event in Mexico is the
proclamation of Mexican independence. In August 1821, the
last Spanish viceroy is forced to sign the Treaty of Córdoba,
marking the official beginning of Mexican independence.
