PROCEDURES AND
RECOMMENDATION STRANSPLANTING SEEDLINGS Good morning class! - Ma’am Camelle OBJECTIVES At the end of the 75 minutes lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Identify the procedures and
recommendation on transplanting ; 2. Value the importance of following the procedures and recommendation on transplanting; and 3. Transplant seedlings following the correct procedures and recommendation on transplanting. ACTIVITY For 15 minutes, transplant the tomato seedlings applying what you did yesterday and what you have learned from the short clip.
In agricultural activities, PPE is
important.
By this activity, I will be able
to identify your initial knowledge in transplanting seedlings. ANALYSIS Based on what you did, what was the most difficult step in transplanting?
Why do you think it’s important to
follow the procedures accurately? PROCEDURES AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON TRANSPLANTING Transplanting seedlings depends on good seedlings , good condition of soil, favorable weather conditions, time of transplanting, use of appropriate tools and the proper manner of work. Tips in Successful Transplanting
1. Have good and healthy seedlings.
2. Have the plant thoroughly prepared before transplanting. 3. Transplant hardened seedlings. Rules in Transplanting
1. Keep the roots moist and the tops dry
while transferring the seedlings. 2. Keep as much soil on the roots as possible. 3. Settle the soil around the roots when watering. 4. Handle seedlings carefully to avoid bruising or breaking. 5. Transplant late in the afternoon or on a cloudy day. 6. Cover the transplants if deemed necessary. Steps in Transplanting 1. Water the seedlings 24 hours before transplanting. 2. With the aid of a sharp dibble or trowel, lift the plants carefully. Never pull the plants. The roots should not be disturbed. Carry them on a wet gunny sack. They should not be exposed to sunlight. 3. Dig a hole big enough to receive the root system without bending or squeezing it into the space. Steps in Transplanting Tomato Seedlings 1. Dig holes in the prepared field at the desired spacing. 2. Carefully remove seedlings from the nursery trays, being mindful not to damage the roots. 3. Place each seedling in the hole and backfill with soil, ensuring the seedling is at the same depth as it was in the nursery. 4. Water the transplanted seedlings immediately after planting to settle the soil around the roots and minimize transplant shock. Different Transplanting Techniques for Tomato Seedlings Different Transplanting Techniques for Tomato Seedlings 1. Deep transplanting of tomato seedlings involves burying the plant at least as deep as the cotyledons, or the first two sets of leaves. This method helps the plant develop a strong root system and produce more fruit. 2. Tomato seedlings can be transplanted when they are 3–4 inches tall and have 3 or more sets of leaves. This is usually 25–30 days after sowing. 3. Trench transplanting of tomato seedlings is a method that involves planting the seedlings in a shallow trench, sideways, with the roots and lower stem horizontal. This technique takes advantage of the warmer soil near the surface. Following the correct procedures and recommendations for transplanting of seedlings provides optimum growth and development of plants. EVALUATION Kindly get ¼ sheet of paper and answer the question of the following items within five minutes.
1-4.) Write the steps in transplanting
tomato seedlings.
5.) From the three(3) different
transplanting techniques for tomato seedlings, what will you choose to do in your own garden and why? ANSWER KEY. Dig holes in the prepared field at the desired spacing. Carefully remove seedlings from the nursery trays, being mindful not to damage the roots. Place each seedling in the hole and backfill with soil, ensuring the seedling is at the same depth as it was in the nursery. Water the transplanted seedlings immediately after planting to settle the soil around the roots and minimize transplant shock. 1. Answers may vary. Assignment
