Chronology of Design
Date Design Proposal

CA Provision
1 X 20-meter PSC Box Girder with RCC abutment on left lane

14-Apr-18
Simply supported 3 span viaduct with 21.5m each was proposed.

18-May-18 The foundation depth was very deep hence proposal was converted to combination
of BOX structure + Full Length U-Type retaining wall with RE Wall on top for Bridge.
SBC considered in design was 35 t/sqm
20-May-19 BOX raft was cast but due to quality issues the same was removed in subsequent
months

27-Feb-20 Due to Site constraints and poor Geological conditions, the full-length U Type
Retaining wall has been converted into steps at various heights so that deep
excavation can be avoided. Design has been done considering SBC of 72 t/sqm.

During the finalization of Cut and cover tunnel in the bridge vicinity, the bridge
design was rechecked and found that the SBC considered was not correct

7
07-Jul-20 Confirmatory SPT was carried out and SBC was only 43 t/sq.m.

Due to the above discrepancy, it has been decided to go with proposal having Full
length U-Type retaining wall.

18-Sep-20 Proof consultant M/s. Desai pointed out the shortfall in SMEC design assumptions and
hence RE wall over Box was rejected

25-Sep-20 It was proposed to increase the width of boxes and U-Type retaining walls from 16.9m
to 33m in order to satisfy the available SBC requirements. The proposal was
deliberated with site and considering ROW constraints, constructability issue the
bridge structure with pile foundation and girder type super structure was proposed.

05-Oct-20 The various options and span arrangement was discussed with CMEG considering
Site condition & access to site, Constructability, Material sourcing etc.,
After review of the proposal and cost benefit analysis CMEG concurred for The Bridge
07-Oct-20
with Pile foundation and PSC Cast in situ Girders.
15-Jan-21 Test pile drawings received.
