Floral Biology

• The inflorescence of Guava is called as cymose


• Calyx is superior with 5 lobes
• Corolla contains 6-10 petals arranged in one or two lobes
• Androecium consist 160-400 filaments
• Gynoecium consist inferior overy
• Style is red, smooth & longer than filament.
• 3 flowering season are reported as Ambe, Mrig & Hasta
bahar
• Peak time of anthesis is between 5 to 6.30 am
• Anther dehiscence 15 to 30 min after anthesis
• The pollen fertility is high in almost all the cultivars
