INTRODUCTION
Computer networks are essential for
communication, data sharing and resource
allocation. In this presentation we will explore
three types of computer networks :
LAN , MAN , and WAN
LAN (LOCAL AREA NETWORK)
LAN ( LOCAL AREA NETWORK ):
A LAN is a computer network that spans a small
geographical area,
typically within a building or campus .”
CHARACTERISTICS:
 Covers an area of up to 1 km (0.62 miles)
 Connects devices such as computers ,
printers ,and servers
 Examples : home networks, office networks,
school networks
MAN ( Metropolitan Area
Network )
A MAN is a computer network that convers a larger
geographical area, typicallu a city or metropolitan area.”
CHARACTERISTICS:
 covers an area of up to 50 km ( 31 miles ) in diameter

 connects multiple LANs and provide internet access

 examples : city-wide network, cable television network
WAN ( Wide Area Network )
“A WAN is a computer network that covers a broad
geographical area, typically spanning multiple cities,
states, or even countries.”
CHARACTERISTICS :
Covers an area of thousand of kilometers(miles) in a
diameter
Connect multiple LANs and WANs, providind global
connectivity
Examples : internet, international corporate network
