Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002
Lesson Goal:
This lesson aims to provide the participants salient knowledge on
Republic Act. No. 9165 also known as Dangerous Drug Act of 2002

Lesson Objective:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

L.O 1. Define what is Drug;


L.O 2. Discuss what is drug abuse;
L.O 3. Explain drug dependence;
L.O 4 Identify the reasons why people turn to drugs; and
L.O 5. Enumerate the types of drugs.
What is DRUG?
• A drug is a chemical substance that brings
about physical, emotional or behavioral change
in a person taking it.
What is DRUG ABUSE?
• Drug abuse is the use of any chemical
substance, licit or illicit, resulting to individual’s
physical, mental, or social impairment

• Using, without benefit or prescription, useful


drugs which have the capacity to alter the mood
or behavior.
What is DRUG ABUSE?
• Using drugs and substances for a purpose
different from the one from which the drug has
been prescribed.

• Using drugs and substances having no


legitimate medical application or purposes other
than research.
TYPES of DRUGS

Natural: anything that comes with nature

Synthetic: anything that is produced artificially or


processed in the laboratory
CLASSIFICATION of DRUGS

INHALANTS: Volatile chemical substances that


contains psycho-active (mind/mood altering)
vapors producing a state of intoxication (ex. Glue
and Adhesive Cement/Rugby/Super Glue/Thinner)
CLASSIFICATION of DRUGS
NARCOTICS – the term narcotic is derived from
the Greek work for stupor, originally referred to a
variety of substances that induced sleep.

- Also called Opiates, which is medical used to relieve


pain
- When abused it causes insensibility, stupor, and
dullness of mind with delusions.
- (Ex: Cough syrups, Opium, Cocaine, Morphine)
CLASSIFICATION of DRUGS

Stimulants – Also known as “uppers”.


Any of a group of drugs that excite the central
nervous system. It increases alertness, alleviate
fatigue, reduce hunger and provide a feeling of
well-being.
What is DRUG DEPENDENCE?
• Drug dependence describes the state when an
individual is dependent upon the drug for
normal physiological functions
WhaTypes of Drugs:t is Child Abuse?
• Natural – anything that comes from nature.

• Synthetic – anything that is produces artificially


or processed in the laboratory.
Classification of Drugs:

Classification of Drugs:

Hallucinogens – Also called “psychedelics”

First developed as appetite suppressant


Any natural or synthetic psychoactive drugs that
produce marked distortion of the senses and
changes in perception (Ex: MJ, LSD, Ecstasy,
Ketamine)
Reason why People turn to Drugs:

• Family Problems
• Lack of Parental Guidance
• Peer Pressure and Curiosity
• Boredom, Frustration
• Weak Personality, Desire to Escape from
Reality
Common Signs of Drug Abuse:

• Stealing items which can be readily sold for


cash (to support a drug habit)
• Changes in Mood
• Association with known drug abusers
• Change from normal capabilities (work habits,
efficiency, etc.)
Common Signs of Drug Abuse:

• Change in attendance at work or school


• Wearing sunglasses constantly at
inappropriate times
• Poor physical appearance, including
inattention to dress and personal hygiene

Section 15: Paggamit ng iligal na droga

KAPARUSAHAN:
Unang Pagkakasala - minimum of 6 mos of
rehabilitation
Pangalawang Pagkakasala - 6 yrs and 1 day to
12 yrs
MGA AHENSYA NA PWEDENG MALALAPITAN:
• BADAC (Barangay officials)
• MSWDO/CSWDO (LGU)
• Police Stations
• PDEA
• PNP-DEG
Why we should avoid Dangerous Drugs?
• • It is illegal and prohibited by law (RA 9165);
• • It damages our brain and body;
• • It destroys one’s behavior and causes one
to commit crime;
• • It against the will of God.
