Dot-Diagram-Motion-Graph

The document discusses monitoring the journey from home to school using motion graphs, specifically through the example of a student named Caloy who tracks his walking distance and time. It explains how to create distance-time and dot diagrams to represent motion, highlighting the significance of distance between dots in indicating speed. Additionally, it covers various types of motion graphs, including position-time and velocity-time graphs, and provides activities for plotting data and understanding motion visually.

From home to school movement

Mrs. Reyes told in her Science class that they

are going to monitor their journey from their
house to school. She said that their movement
from home to school can be represented
through motion-graph. This motion graph is an
efficient way to represent an information about
the movement of an object.
Caloy, a grade 7 student monitored his trip from
his house to school. He walked from his house 20
meters to the nearby church for 5 minutes. From the
church he walked 40 meters for 10 minutes to the
water refilling station. From the water refilling
station, he walked 60 meters to the school for 15
minutes. Caloy make use of a table to summarize his
data and convert it to distance-time graph. A
distance-time graph represents the distance covered
in a given time.
He draw two lines perpendicular to each other,
the horizontal line is the X-axis, while the vertical
line is the Y-axis. Since the quantities are distance
and time, he plotted the distance on the Y-axis and
time on the X-axis. He plotted the points, first he
need to locate 0 on the horizontal axis and 0 on the
vertical axis. After plotting all the points from the
data, he draw a line through the points of the graph.
This graph is very useful because Caloy can track his
position at a given time from his house to school.

MOTION
Motion is a continuous
change in position of an
object with respect to a
reference point for a point
a particular time interval.

DIAGRAM
Diagrams are visual
representations that use
pictures or symbols to
illustrate and explain an
idea or information.
TICKER TAPE DIAGRAM
Ticker tape diagram is a
tool that uses marks on a
tape to record and
measure
an object’s movement. We
can also call this as
DOT DIAGRAM.
DOT DIAGRAM
The distance between the
dots represents the speed
of the object at a certain
time interval.
DOT DIAGRAM A

DOT DIAGRAM B
A large distance between
dots means the object
was moving fast during a
time interval.
A small distance between
dots means the object was
moving slow during a time
interval.
DOT DIAGRAM A

DOT DIAGRAM B
Equal distance means constant
speed or velocity, and there’s no
acceleration on the movement of
the two objects.
The speed of the object is
increasing since the distance
between the dots is getting
larger.
The speed of the object is
decreasing since the distance
between the dots is getting
smaller.

DOT DIAGRAM B
A large distance between dots means
the object was moving fast during a

A small distance between dots means

the object was moving slow during a
time interval.
