Computer Fundamental

The presentation covers the fundamentals of computer networks, including definitions, types (PAN, LAN, MAN, WAN), and network topology (bus, ring, star, mesh, tree, hybrid). It explains how these networks connect devices and facilitate information sharing. Additionally, it briefly mentions how satellite internet operates.

1)What Is Computer Network ?

 A computer network is a system that connects

two or more computing devices for
transmitting and sharing information.
Computing devices include everything from a
mobile phone to a server. These devices are
connected using physical wires such as fiber
optics, but they can also be wireless.
2) Types of Network
:

There are the 4 main types of computer networks

•PAN (Personal Area Network).

•LAN (Local Area Network).
•MAN (Metropolitan Area Network).
•WAN (Wide Area Network).
•PAN (Personal Area Network):
A personal area network (PAN) connects electronic
devices within a user's immediate area. The size of
a PAN ranges from a few centimeters to a few
meters. One of the most common real-world
examples of a PAN is the connection between a
Bluetooth earpiece and a smartphone. PANs can
also connect laptops, tablets, printers, keyboards,
and other computerized devices.

•LAN (Local Area Network):

A local area network (LAN) is a network contained
within a small geographic area, usually within the
same building. Home WiFi networks and small
business networks are common examples of LANs.
This type of computer network connects
computers within a single building or office.
•MAN (Metropolitan Area Network):
The Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is a network
type that covers the network connection of an
entire city or connection of a small area. The area
covered by the network is connected using a wired
network, like data cables.

•WAN (Wide Area Network) :

A wide-area network (WAN) is the technology that

connects your offices, data centers, cloud
applications, and cloud storage together. It is
called a wide-area network because it spans
beyond a single building or large campus to
include multiple locations spread across a specific
geographic area, or even the world.
3) What Is Network Topology?
 Network topology focuses on the arrangement of various
components in a network. This includes the physical and logical
description of how nodes and connections are made in a
network. .
· Bus Topology: All devices share a single communication line

· Ring Topology: Devices are connected in a circular fashion.

· Star Topology: All devices connect to a central hub or switch.

 Mesh Topology: Devices are interconnected, providing multiple paths for

data.

 Tree Topology : Tree topologies have a root node, and all other nodes are connected
which form a hierarchy. So it is also known as hierarchical topology. This topology
integrates various star topologies together in a single bus, so it is known as a Star Bus
topology. Tree topology is a very common network which is similar to a bus and star
topology.

 Hybrid Topology : It is two different types of topologies which is a

mixture of two or more topologies. For example if in an office in one
department ring topology is used and in another star topology is used,
connecting these topologies will result in Hybrid Topology (ring topology
and star topology).
