Rational Decision Making
Effective decision makers identify, select, and apply the best possible
decision.
Bounded Rationality Decision Making
We seek a decision that will be good enough, rather than the best
possible decision.
Intuitive Decision Making
We base decisions on our ‘gut’ feelings.
Intuition and Making Choices
Have your ever relied on a “gut feeling” to make a decision?
If you have, we would say you are acting on your “intuition”.
Intuitive Decision Making
Intuitive Decision Making is the ability to know
when a problem or opportunity exists and to select
the best course of action without conscious
reasoning (the process of looking at the
information without bias before making a
decision).
• These emotional experiences may indicate your intuition.
• The gut feelings we experience are emotional signals.
Employee Involvement in Decision
Making
• Involve employees in decision-making.
• Known as participatory decision-making.
• Overall, employee involvement improves decision-
making quality.
• Impacts overall job satisfaction.
To make the best decisions, we need
to involve people who have the info
and are motivated to implement the
decision.
Groupthink
A phenomenon where people tend to conform with
group decision to avoid feeling outcast, leading to
errors in decision-making.
