2. Cafeteria, health and performance ,events space and Non office area (Lobby and Atrium Spaces) are conditioned using Conventional cooling (with AHU’s , CSU’s
or FCU’s) and load need to considered in the total load after detail layout received from arch.
3. The Chiller for BUA case considered is centrifugal or screw chiller for operation with COP of 5.5.
4. The chiller for HGU Design(High efficient chiller) considered is Magnetic centrifugal chiller (oil free) or ceramic bearing chiller with COP of 6.5 and HFO refrigerant type.
5. The Chiller load remains same in the conventional case, the kw varies based on high efficient chiller type or BUA case.

COMPARISION OF SYSTEMS
DESCRIPTION RADIANT BAFFLE COOLING CONVENTIONAL AIR DISTRIBUTION
Chilled water circulates through panels or metal baffles Air circulates through the space and acts as a cooling medium i.e
Cooling Medium
suspended from the ceiling. i.e Water (70%)+ Air (30%) Air (100%)

Humidity Control Effective at humidity control Effective at humidity control

Provides direct radiant cooling via metal panels with chilled

Cooling Mechanism Air-based cooling via ducts and diffusers
water pipes.
Air Movement Minimal air circulation needed Requires high air circulation

Cooling Capacity High (80-90W/sqmt) Moderate

Flexibility Easier to adjust, replace, reconfigure. Easier to adjust, replace, reconfigure.

Thermal Comfort More dynamic cooling with quicker adjustments. Potential for drafts and temperature variations

Ceiling Design Impact Low, as it requires minimal ductwork High, requires extensive ductwork

Installation Suspended from the ceiling as separate elements. Lower initial cost but higher energy consumption over time
Can be noisy due to fans, ducts, and diffusers i.e 40-60DB (Air
Noise Levels Silent or very low noise i.e 20-30DB (Chilled water Flow)
Flow)
Mode of Heat Transfer Primarily radiant (60-80%) + Natural convection Forced Convective cooling (100%)

Higher efficiency (10 times) due to water's better heat transfer

Energy Efficiency Less efficient due to fan power and air distribution losses
