Just like a son to his father, it
is natural for the son to ask
his father for the things he
needs.
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
Prayer is the spiritual
communication between man
and God. It is a two – way
relationship in which man
should not only talk to God
but also listen to Him
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
When you receive Christ into your heart,
you become a child of God and have the
privilege of talking to Him in prayer at any
time about anything. The Christian life is
a personal relationship to God through
Jesus Christ. And best of all, it is a
relationship that will last for all eternity.

It’s possible to feel closer to
God in a variety of ways:
reading the bible, listening to
worship music, attending
religious services in the
community or online, or
spending time with your local
church community.

How to pray?
Let’s start with Jesus’
teaching on how to pray,
found in Matthew 6:5-15:
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
“And when you pray, do not be like the
5
hypocrites, for they love to pray
standing in the synagogues and on the
street corners to be seen by others. Truly
I tell you, they have received their reward
in full.”
But when you pray, go into your room,
6“
close the door and pray to your
Father, who is unseen. Then your Father,
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
“And when you pray, do not keep on
7
babbling like pagans, for they think they
will be heard because of their many
words.”
8
“Do not be like them, for your Father
knows what you need before you ask
him.”
9
“This, then, is how you should pray:”
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
“Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
10
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
.
11
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
12
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
13
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil.
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
14 “
For if you forgive other people when
they sin against you, your heavenly
Father will also forgive you.”
15
“But if you do not forgive others their
sins, your Father will not forgive your
sins.”
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
Who should pray?
“If my people, who are called by my
name, will humble themselves and pray
and seek my face and turn from their
wicked ways, then I will hear from
heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will
heal their land.”
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
Who should pray?
“And if we know that he hears us—
whatever we ask—we know that we have
what we asked of him.”
1 John 5:15
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
Who should pray?
“I cry aloud to the LORD;
I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy.
I pour out before him my complaint;
before him I tell my trouble.
When my spirit grows faint within me,
it is you who watch over my way.”
Psalm 142: 1-3
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
When should we pray?
Prayer is great when you’re in a crisis
and you need to pour everything out to
God. But it’s also great to share your
everyday hopes, ideas and thanks with
God throughout the day.
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
When should we pray?
“Rejoice always, pray continually,
give thanks in all circumstances; for this
is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
When should we pray?
“Do not be anxious about anything,
but in every situation, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your
requests to God. And the peace of God,
which transcends all understanding, will
guard your hearts and your minds in
Christ Jesus.”
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
How should we pray?
“And pray in the Spirit on all
occasions with all kinds of prayers and
requests. With this in mind, be alert and
always keep on praying for all the Lord’s
people.”
Ephesians 6:18
W H AT I S A P RAY E R ?
How should we pray?
“This is the confidence we have in
approaching God: that if we ask anything
according to his will, he hears us.”
1 John 5:14

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and Earth; and in Jesus
Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was
conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under
Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was
buried. He descended into hell; on the
third day He rose again from the dead. He
ascended into heaven, and is seated at

From there He will come to judge

the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic
Church, the communion of Saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and life
everlasting.
Amen.

HAIL HOLY QUEEN
T H E P RAY E R S O F S A I N T M A RY ’ S A C A D E M Y O F J A S A A N , I N C O R P O RAT E D
Hail Holy Queen Mother of Mercy,
Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To you do we cry, poor banished children of
Eve;
To you do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then o most gracious advocate,
Your eyes of mercy toward us,
And after this our exile show unto us
The blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

The "Hail, Holy Queen" is a prayer that
highlights Mary’s role as a compassionate and
powerful intercessor. It seeks her aid,
acknowledges the faithful’s need for mercy
and support, and expresses trust in her ability
to guide them toward Jesus and eternal life.
The prayer serves as both a plea for help and
a testament to Mary’s revered place in
Catholic devotion.

T H E P RAY E R S O F S A I N T M A RY ’ S A C A D E M Y O F J A S A A N , I N C O R P O RAT E D
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
That never was it known that anyone who
fled to your protection,
implored your help, or sought your
intercession,
Was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence.
I fly unto you,
O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother.

Despise not my petitions,
But in your mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for
having offended You, and I detest all
my sins, because I dread the loss of
heaven, and the pains of hell; but most
of all because they offended You, my
God, Who are all good and deserving of
all my love. I firmly resolve, with the
help of our grace, to confess my sins,
T H E P RAY E R S O F S A I N T M A RY ’ S A C A D E M Y O F J A S A A N , I N C O R P O RAT E D
The Act of Contrition is a prayer
that plays a crucial role in the sacrament
of Reconciliation by expressing sorrow for
sins, seeking God’s forgiveness, and
committing to change. It highlights the
penitent’s genuine remorse,
acknowledges the need for God’s grace,
and reaffirms the desire to live a life in
accordance with divine will.

The 3 O'Clock Prayer is a devotional
practice centered on the hour of Jesus’s death,
emphasizing His sacrificial love and the
boundless mercy of God. It serves to
commemorate Jesus’s Passion, seek divine
mercy for oneself and the world, and provide a
moment of spiritual reflection and renewal. By
praying this at 3 PM, Catholics honor the hour
of mercy and express their trust in God’s
infinite compassion.
