Technology

Evolution:
Past to Present
Technology Evolution
A theory that says as technology develops, it can deeply change the way people
live, work, and interact with each other.

Technology runs our daily lives these days. Smartphones, tablets, and computers
-- we really can't seem to function without them. In a very short amount of time,
technology has exploded in the market and now, many people cannot imagine a
life without it.
Need of Technology
Life Before Modern Technology
• Life was more difficult and time-consuming.
• Everyday chores took up a lot of time and energy.

Simplified Access to Essentials

• Technology made education, healthcare, industry, and transportation more
accessible.
• Tasks that once took hours or days can now be done quickly and efficiently.

Improved Quality of Life

• Technology has made life more convenient and productive.
• We can now work from home, attend virtual classes, and access services online.

Staying Connected
• Even during the pandemic, technology helped us stay in touch with family,
friends, and colleagues.
• It enabled remote learning, virtual meetings, and online social interactions.

Technology in Communication
First, communication was done through
letters, which was later replaced by the
telephone in 1876. Early telephones
were very complicated and expensive.

The first portable phone was developed

in 1973 and used 1G technology, which
offered low quality. Over time, mobile
communication technology has
advanced, progressing through 2G, 3G,
and 4G, to VoLTE and 5G. Some countries
have already implemented 5G and are
even working on 6G and beyond.
Technology in Connectivity
The first connections were made during
World War II.
They were very complex and unreliable
at the time.

But now, communication has evolved

into wireless technologies such as
Bluetooth, Zigbee, Wi-Fi, GSM, GPRS,
broadcasting, and more.

These modern technologies have made

communication easier, faster, more
reliable, compact, and affordable.
Technology in Entertainment
In 1810, the first CRT (Cathode Ray
Tube) device was created. Later, this
technology was developed into
televisions. Over time, TVs evolved from
plasma screens to LCDs, LEDs, and now
the latest generation—OLED TVs.

The first radio was built using nine

transistors in the 1950s. Since then,
bandwidth and signal quality have
significantly improved, offering better
performance and clarity.
Technology in Automation
Robots are machines built with the help of
computers and artificial intelligence (AI), often
designed to look and act like humans.
• Sophia, the world's first robot citizen, impressed
the crowd during an event at IIT Mumbai.
AI (Artificial Intelligence) is software programmed
to think dynamically. It mimics human thinking
and can learn, adapt, and make decisions,
making it a powerful tool in modern technology.
CNC (Computer Numerical Control) refers to
machines or robots programmed to perform
specific tasks repeatedly at high speed and with
high accuracy. These are widely used in
industries for manufacturing, assembling, and
fixing components.
Technology in Security
Rockets, Satellites, and Rovers

Satellites are highly useful for a variety of purposes, including:

o Weather forecasting
o Communication systems
o GPS and location services
o Scientific research on cosmic objects
o Military and defense applications

Rovers are robotic vehicles used to explore the surface of other planets and moons.
They help collect valuable data for space research and exploration.

Radars are essential in fields such as:

o Space exploration
o Aeronautics and aviation
o Military and defense
o Weather monitoring and forecasting
Advantages
Speed: They operate quickly and save valuable time.
Reliability: Consistent performance with minimal errors.
Compactness: Devices are becoming smaller and more efficient.
Portability: Easy to carry and use anywhere.
Multitasking: Capable of handling multiple jobs at once.
Convenience: Make life simpler and more comfortable.
Knowledge Access: Useful for learning and gaining information.
Automation: Widely used in automatic vehicles and their maintenance.
Agriculture: Helpful in modern farming practices, improving productivity.
Disadvantages
While modern technology has many benefits, it also comes with several drawbacks:

Lack of Control: Sometimes, technology becomes difficult to manage and control.

Safety Concerns: Overuse or misuse can lead to safety and privacy issues, especially due to
hackers.
Employment Impact: Automation and machines may reduce job opportunities for people.
Distraction: Technology can be highly distracting and reduce our focus.
Health Issues: Overuse can lead to laziness, unhealthy lifestyles, and addiction.
Social Impact: People are becoming more isolated, ignoring family and neighbors, which
increases loneliness.
Sleep Disorders: Excessive screen time can cause insomnia or poor sleep quality.
Skill Loss: Heavy reliance on technology can lead to the loss of traditional skills and problem-
solving abilities.
Environmental Damage:
Radiation from mobile towers is harmful to small birds.
Refrigerators and air conditioners release CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons), which contribute to
ozone layer depletion and pollution.
