ABSTRACT

The proposed project introduces a Blockchain-Based Product Authentication and Management System
designed to enhance product traceability, authenticity, and transparency. The system integrates blockchain
technology to securely store product information and digital signatures generated from barcode images,
ensuring tamper-proof data storage. The platform comprises two primary roles: Admin and User. Admins
can log in, add new products with associated bar-code images, generate digital signatures, and store
product metadata in a decentralized ledger. They can also view uploaded products and registered users.
Users, after signing up and logging in, can retrieve product details using product IDs or barcode images.
The authentication processcross-verifies barcode digital signatures stored on the blockchain, effectively
detecting tampered or counterfeit products. Overall, the system enhances trust between manufacturers,
administrators, and end consumers in various product ecosystems.
INTRODUCTION

Counterfeit products pose a significant threat across various industries, including pharmaceuticals, luxury
goods, electronics, and food supply chains. These fake products not only result in financial losses for
companies but also endanger consumer safety and trust. Traditional methods of authentication, such as
holograms or serial numbers, have proven vulnerable to tampering and replication.

Blockchain is a decentralized, distributed ledger. This inherent immutability and transparency make

blockchain an ideal technology for product authentication and counterfeit detection. In the context of
counterfeit product identification, blockchain can be used to create a digital record of a product’s journey
from its point of origin to the consumer.

Each step in the supply chain — manufacturing, shipping, distribution, and retail — can be recorded as a
transaction on the blockchain. By scanning a product’s QR code or NFC tag, consumers and stakeholders can
access its entire history and verify its authenticity and ensure that only validated transactions are added to the
product’s record. This reduces the need for intermediaries and minimizes the risk of fraud.

EXISTING SYSTEM
The existing methods for product authentication primarily rely on centralized databases and manual
verification processes. Manufacturers typically maintain records in traditional systems where product
information, including barcodes or serial numbers, is stored and matched during verification. Retailers or
consumers verify products using QR codes or by entering product IDs on official websites. While these
approaches offer basic traceability, they are highly dependent on a single point of control, making them
vulnerable to manipulation, cyber-attacks, and data breaches. Additionally, there is limited transparency
and trust, especially for end-users, as they cannot independently verify the integrity of stored data.
Furthermore, there is no robust mechanism to detect tampered or duplicated barcodes, leaving room for
counterfeit products to enter the supply chain unnoticed. These limitations highlight the need for a more
secure, transparent, and tamper-proof solution like blockchain.
DEMERITS OF EXISTING SYSTEM

 Centralized databases are prone to tampering and unauthorized access.

 Lack of real-time and transparent verification for end-users.

 High risk of data manipulation and barcode duplication.

 Manual verification is time-consuming and inefficient.

 No permanent, immutable record of product authenticity.

PROPOSED SYSTEM
 The system uses blockchain technology for product authentication and management.
 It provides secure, transparent, and tamper-proof verification of products.
 Admins can upload product details along with barcode images.
 A digital signature is generated from each barcode.
 This signature is stored immutably on the blockchain to prevent alteration or duplication.
 Users can sign up and log in to the system.
 Users can verify products by entering the product ID or uploading the barcode image.
 The system compares the digital signature with the blockchain record for authentication.
 Product verification happens in real time.
 The system is decentralized, removing the need for intermediaries.
 It improves data integrity and builds user trust.
 Smart contracts handle verification and storage processes automatically.
 This reduces manual work, scalable and minimizes errors.
MERITS OF PROPOSED SYSTEM
 Ensures tamper-proof storage and verification using blockchain technology.

 Provides real-time product authentication via barcode digital signature matching.

 Eliminates dependency on centralized systems and third-party verifiers.

 Enhances transparency, traceability, and trust among stakeholders.

 Automates verification processes through smart contracts, reducing errors and delays.
OBJECTIVES

 Develop a Blockchain-Based Authentication System

 Combat Counterfeit Goods

 Enable Secure Product Data Storage

 Real-Time Product Verification

 Enhance Product Traceability

 Support Decentralized and Transparent Management

CONCLUSION
The rise of counterfeit products challenges consumer trust, safety, and authenticity across
industries. This project offers a blockchain-based solution that is secure, transparent, and tamper-
proof. Its decentralized nature ensures product data is immutable and verifiable. Real-time
verification and smart contracts enhance security and traceability. The system boosts consumer
confidence and reduces fraud. Scalable and versatile, it can transform industries like
pharmaceuticals, electronics, and luxury goods.
