TPACK as a Framework for
Technology-Driven Teaching and
Learning
Module 5, Lesson 2 - Technology for
Teaching and Learning 1
Lesson Outcomes
• 1. Familiarize with TPACK and SAMR Model in
integrating technology.
• 2. Employ appropriate technology in
instructional plans.
• 3. Evaluate technology integration in lessons.
• 4. Apply learning theories through media and
technology.
What is TPACK?
• TPACK = Technological + Pedagogical +
Content Knowledge
• Framework combining teacher's tech skills,
content expertise, and pedagogy to make
teaching more effective and engaging.
Understanding the Components of
TPACK
• CK (Content Knowledge): What to teach (e.g.,
math, science).
• PK (Pedagogical Knowledge): How to teach
(teaching methods).
• TK (Technological Knowledge): What tools to
use (digital tools, apps).
TPACK Intersections
• PCK: Pedagogical Content Knowledge
• TCK: Technological Content Knowledge
• TPK: Technological Pedagogical Knowledge
• TPACK: Integration of all three for 21st-century
teaching.
The TPACK Model
• Balanced and collaborative framework
combining content, pedagogy, and technology.
• TPACK model helps plan and deliver
meaningful, technology-supported lessons.
SAMR Model Introduction
• Developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura.
• Supports teachers in infusing technology into
teaching through 4 stages:
• S - Substitution
• A - Augmentation
• M - Modification
• R - Redefinition
SAMR Model Explained
• Substitution: Tech as direct substitute (e.g.,
Google Maps vs. globe).
• Augmentation: Functional improvement (e.g.,
distance tools in Google Maps).
• Modification: Redesign parts of lesson (e.g.,
uploading photos, adding descriptions).
• Redefinition: Create new tasks (e.g., virtual
tours using student-made scripts).
SAMR Model Chart
• Visual of SAMR's Enhancement (S, A) and
Transformation (M, R) levels.
• Shows example tasks and tech uses at each
level.
Apps in Education
• Apps classified under SAMR:
• Redefinition - iMovie, GarageBand, etc.
• Modification - Edmodo, Google Classroom
• Augmentation - Quizlet, Socrative
• Substitution - Calculator, MS Word
Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy
• Revised taxonomy:
• Higher Order Thinking: Creating, Evaluating,
Analyzing
• Lower Order Thinking: Applying,
Understanding, Remembering
SAMR and Bloom’s Alignment
• Redefinition = Creating
• Modification = Evaluating
• Augmentation = Analyzing & Applying
• Substitution = Understanding & Remembering
iPad Apps for Bloom’s Taxonomy
• Apps support different cognitive levels:
• Creating - iMovie, GarageBand
• Evaluating - Skype, Rubrics
• Analyzing - Mind mapping tools
• Applying - Presentation tools
• Understanding - Quiz tools
• Remembering - Flashcards
iPadagogy Wheel
• Visual integration of apps, Bloom’s verbs, and
learning activities.
• Helps in planning tech-integrated lessons
aligned with learning goals.
