Pregnancy is the period when women need more attention
and care. Worldwide, an estimated 515,000 women die of
causes related to pregnancy and child birth each year, and
their deaths leave one million children motherless.2 Over
99% of these deaths occur in developing countries. In
India, in every five minutes one woman dies from
complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. This
means more than 1, 00,000 women die each year due to
pregnancy related causes.

STUDY
• Antenatal care is an important intervention for
the wellbeing of the pregnant mother and the
expected infant, especially in regions where
maternal and infant mortality rates are high.
The main reason for high maternal mortality in
India is that many women are not aware of the
measures that are available to prevent diseases
in pregnancy as well as basic information in
self care during pregnancy. Many do not
receive timely help either because they are
unaware of the help available or help is not
within the reasonable distance.

between pre test and post test knowledge of
the primigravida mother regarding antenatal
care.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
• RESEARCH DESIGN AND APPROACH
Pre experimental study, pre test post test
design and quantitative research approach was
used to assess the effectiveness of structured
teaching program on Antenatal care.
VARIABLES
• Demographic variables: Age,
Education, Occupation, Monthly income
of family, Type of family, No. of antenatal
visit, Gestational age and Source of
information
• Independent variable: Structured
teaching program
• Dependent variable: Knowledge of
Primigravida mother
SETTING OF THE
STUDY
• The study was conducted in the Kansa
N.A area, Ambala, Akba and Upera
Villages of Mehsana district.
SAMPLE AND SAMPLE
SIZE
• The Samples for this study were
Primigravida mothers with who fulfilled
the inclusion criteria.
• The sample size of the study was
60primigravida mothers.
Sampling technique
• Non probability convenience
technique.
VALIDITY OF TOOL
• Content validity of the tool was
established by 5 expert comprising from
the department of Obstetrics and
Gynecological nursing.
RELIABILITY OF THE TOOL
• karl pearson’s formula.
• The reliability of the knowledge questionnaire
was determined by karl pearson’s coefficient
correlation formula and it was 0.84 which was
more than 0.5 hence the questionnaire found to
be reliable.
PILOT STUDY
• The pilot study was conducted at Valam
from 20/05/2019 and 22/05/2019.
