Design enhances communication. It helps people to understand a given message. Design persuades and influences public opinion Design instructs, identifies and informs people
Visual Communication is graphic design Visual Communication combines speech, written language and imagery into messages that are aesthetically pleasing. It connects to audiences on intellectual and emotional level and provide them with relevant information. Visual Communication identifies, informs, instructs, interprets and persuades viewers to do something.
Semiotics: The study of signs and symbols and their impact on communication and language
Depth of Meaning: There are 7 layers before an information reaches the viewers
Perception Sensation Emotion Intellect Indentification Reverberation Spirituality
High Context Societies (Asia, Latin America and eastern Europe): Interprets aesthetic messages that utilizes many layers of depth and meaning. E.g. Story, inside joke, visually complex symbolism. Low Context Societies (North America, Northern Europe): Interpretation of Visual messages in literal. Doesnt like complexities. E.g. Exec Summaries, Bulleted points
Cultural Consideration: Each culture has different visual interpretations. E.g. Swastika Color: Influences psychology and emotion of the views
