Made entirely from raw material that is tanned and cured using only natural
ingredients without chemicals, these objects are known for their versatility and
usefulness in the hot and sweaty months of the summer – all of which have
contributed to the claims of them having medicinal properties.
Over the last one year, the raw materials used for them have become sharply
more expensive in the prime manufacturing town – prohibiting their availability and
escalating costs for both producers and consumers, which has led to the decline
in livelihood of several stakeholders, apart from that of the product’s own
popularity.
What objects are these, known by the place of their manufacture?
Why the decline recently?

The pupillary sphincter is a muscle in the eye that encircles the pupil of the iris and
controls its adjustment in times of dim and bright light. Apart from its regular
behavior – it is observed that in the final hours of one’s life, the control over this
muscle is entirely lost which leads to its involuntary relaxation and the subsequent
dilation of the eyes. The functioning of this muscle was a matter of particular
interest to a certain duo last year, who spent hours trying to study this complex
anatomical process in detail to achieve a desired effect.

A recent probe launched by the Madhya Pradesh government found at least 114
doctors who gained admission by fraud since 2009, apart from several practicing

were due to imposters writing examinations with their photos on the ID cards.

connotes a "magic show, an illusion where things appear to be present but are not
what they seem”. X is also a spiritual concept connoting "that which exists, but is

The Circular Ruins is a 1940 short story by Argentine writer JL Borges that deals
with the themes of idealism and the manifestation of thoughts as objects in the
real world. The story seems to symbolize every character as a creator whose
imagination brings about real changes in the things and the people around them.
This story was declared to be one of the key inspirations behind a 2010 work that
dealt with similar themes, although on a much bigger scale. What did this story
serve as the inspiration for?

During 1979 – a year before the USA’s 49th Presidential election – this phrase
was coined by Ronald Reagan’s campaign in order to stir up a sense of patriotism
and glory among the electorate, while the country was suffering from a worsening
economy marked by high unemployment and inflation. What four word phrase,
that has now been revived by someone who served on Reagan’s financial
advisory committee for the election?
21. The h/h blood group the X blood group, is a rare blood type.
It is largely because of extensive inbreeding within the same lineage or
close-community marriages, often consanguineous, such that the ‘blood
type’ or the gene pool is greatly restricted. Such intra-community
marriages have happened in small isolated communities such as the
gypsies, Russian Jewish or Parsi communities. It is thus likely that the X
Blood types have common ancestral origins. This special feature is
occasionally dramatized in plays and movies, such as in the Telugu film
Okkadunadu where the villain (antagonist) finds to his dismay that the
hero (protagonist) was the one who donated his X Blood to save him. And
in the Hindi film Kahaani the villain was exposed since he needed X Blood
for transfusion.
