Pisthacos are legendary creatures from Peruvian folklore that were said to kill travelers on lonely roads in order to extract and sell their fat. According to the legends, Pisthacos appeared in pre-Hispanic times and looked different than Incas with blond hair and blue eyes. While considered a legend for many years, in 2009 four men were arrested in Peru for actually killing people and extracting/selling their fat for cosmetic uses in Europe, lending some credibility to the old folktales.

Many people think that they were foreigns. What did they look like? They were taller tan incas. Pishtacos had blue eyes and blond hairs. They were athletic.Pishtacos were bandits that killed a lot of women and men who walked alone in deserted roads. They , slited their victims for eat their meat as chicharoon and sold the fat of human bodies. Ricardo Palma wrote about then in his “Peruvian Tradition” book. He told us Spanish missionaries were feared as Pisthacos by incas who belived they were killing people for fat to cured the patients of the hospital next to churches an monasteries. On November 2009, BBC News online reported the arrested of four men “On of killing dozens of people in order to sell their fat and tisaue for cosmetic uses in Europe” in Peru- Huanuco. Peruvian pólice said : Three suspects confessed to killing five people for their fat, and two were arrested carrying bottles of liquid fat, the legend suddenly get some substance. It’ so hard to believe it .However, that there really is a commerce with human body is gping on around the world. As Dr Adam Katz, profesor of plastic surgery at the university of Viginia medical , said: “ I can´t see why there would be a black market for fat, it desn´t make any sense at because in most countries we can get fat so readily and in such amounts from who are willing and realy to danate that i don´t see there would ever be a black for fat, of all tissues”
- 4. I Heard about the pishtacos when i was 8 years old.My grandfather who told me this story. He told me that these men abducted travelers on lonely roads, killed them and then hung upside down over a flaming cnadle in order to slowly extract the fat from their bodies. This valuables fat was then sold to prepare cosmetics or lubricant for aircraft. I couldn´t believe pishtacos.But you imagine my surprise when i saw in Punto Final News: Four people arrested in Huanuco because they killed dozens of people in order to sell their fat for tissue for cosmetic use in Europe.
