Five Steps to Avoid
Backsliding Part two:
Here’s How: Sixth Step
Stay in fellowship often with other
 born-again believers.
You can’t make it alone as a christian.
We need the strength, prayers and
 accountability.
 Hebrews 10:23-25(NLT)
23 Let us hold tightly without wavering
to the hope we affirm, for God can be
trusted to keep his promise.
24 Let us think of ways to motivate one
another to acts of love and good works.
25 And let us not neglect our meeting
together, as some people do, but
encourage one another, especially now
that the day of his return is drawing
near.
Here’s How: Seventh Step

 Stand firm in your faith.
 Expect difficult times in your
 christian life.
 James 1:2-4(NLT)
2 Dear brothers and sisters, when
troubles come your way, consider it an
opportunity for great joy.
3 For you know that when your faith is
tested, your endurance has a chance
to grow.
4 So let it grow, for when your
endurance is fully developed, you will
be perfect and complete, needing
nothing.
Here’s How: Eighth Step

 Persevere
 Endurance
 1 Corinthians 13:6-7(NLT)
 1 Timothy 4:15-16(NLT)
1 Corinthians 13:6-7

6 It does not rejoice about injustice
but rejoices whenever the truth wins
 out.
7 Love never gives up, never loses
faith, is always hopeful, and endures
 through every circumstance.
1 Timothy 4:15-16
15 Give your complete attention to
 these matters. Throw yourself into
your tasks so that everyone will see
 your progress.
16 Keep a close watch on how you live
and on your teaching. Stay true to
what is right for the sake of your own
salvation and the salvation of those
 who hear you.
Here’s How: Ninth Step

 Run the race to WIN.
Always let the Bible be your guide.
 1 Corinthians 9:24-27(NLT)
 2 Timothy 4:7-8(NLT)
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone
runs, but only one person gets the prize? So
 run to win!
25 All athletes are disciplined in their training.
They do it to win a prize that will fade away,
but we do it for an eternal prize.
26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am
 not just shadowboxing.
27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training
it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that
after preaching to others I myself might be
 disqualified.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
7 I have fought the good fight, I have
finished the race, and I have remained
 faithful.
8 And now the prize awaits me—the
 crown of righteousness, which the
Lord, the righteous Judge, will give
me on the day of his return. And the
prize is not just for me but for all who
eagerly look forward to his appearing.
Here’s How: Tenth Step
Remind yourself of what God has done
 for you in the past.
Everyone has troubled BUT we have
 HOPE.
Plan to PROSPER and not to HARM you.
 Jeremiah 29:11-13(NLT)
 Hebrews 10:35-39(NLT)
Jeremiah 29:11-13
11 For I know the plans I have for
you,” says the Lord. “They are plans
for good and not for disaster, to give
you a future and a hope.
12 In those days when you pray, I will
 listen.
13 If you look for me wholeheartedly,
 you will find me.
Hebrews 10:35-36&39
35 So do not throw away this confident
trust in the Lord. Remember the great
 reward it brings you!
36 Patient endurance is what you need
now, so that you will continue to do God’s
will. Then you will receive all that he has
 promised.
39 But we are not like those who turn away
from God to their own destruction. We are
the faithful ones, whose souls will be
 saved.
