TO KNOW HIM WHO IS TRUE
1 John 5
THE LOVE OF GOD
1 John 5. 1 Every one who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of
God, and every one who loves the parent loves the child. 2 By this we
 know that we love the children of God, when we love God and
                  obey his commandments.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his
                 commandments are not burdensome.

                        A child of GOD
                believes in JESUS as CHRIST
              loves the parent (Father of Jesus)
                   loves HIS other children
                  keeps HIS commandments
      does not consider HIS commandments burdensome
OVERCOMING THE WORLD
 1 John 5. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world;
and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. 5 Who
is it that overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is
                          the Son of God?

     Those who are born of GOD, that is, children of GOD,
            believes that Jesus is the Son of GOD
           overcomes the world through their faith
THE SPIRIT IS THE TRUTH
   1 John 5 6 This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus
Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood.
  7 And the Spirit is the witness, because the Spirit is the truth.
8 There are three witnesses, the Spirit, the water, and the blood;
                       and these three agree.

               Jesus’ coming was attested by
           HIS water baptism in public, which was
  witnessed by the Holy Spirit (represented by the dove), and
       HIS sacrifice on the cross (shedding HIS blood).
THE TESTIMONY OF GOD

 Matthew 3 16 And when Jesus was baptized, he went up
immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were
  opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a
dove, and alighting on him; 17 and lo, a voice from heaven,
   saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well
                         pleased."
THE TESTIMONY OF GOD
 1 John 5 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is
greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has borne witness to his
     Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in
himself. He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he
has not believed in the testimony that God has borne to his Son. 11 And
 this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his
                                    Son.

  With the strong witness of SPIRIT, water and blood, and the verbal
          confirmation of the FATHER, the testimony of GOD
                  compels us to believe in the SON;
               confers eternal life on those who believe;
   makes those who still do not believe accusers of GOD’s integrity.
YOU HAVE ETERNAL LIFE
 1 John 5 12 He who has the Son has life; he who has not the
Son of God has not life. 13 I write this to you who believe in the
  name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have
                           eternal life.

A clear line is drawn within the human race regarding JESUS
                            CHRIST:
                     those who believe, and
                    those who do not believe
            in GOD’s testimony about HIS SON.

This makes the ultimate difference between having eternal life
                 and not having eternal life.
ASK ANYTHING ACCORDING TO HIS WILL
1 John 5 14 And this is the confidence which we have in him, that
if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we
   know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we
            have obtained the requests made of him.

                 Let’s be clear about this:
           GOD does not answer all our prayers;
   GOD only answers prayer which is according to HIS Will;
   We will know GOD’s Will for us by GOD’s answer to our
                           prayer.
SIN WHICH IS MORTAL
1 John 5 16 If any one sees his brother committing what is not a
mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose
 sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that
 one is to pray for that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin
                         which is not mortal.

      All wrongdoing is sinful but not all sin is the same:
    unbelief is a mortal sin whose consequence cannot be
                      overturned by prayer
           non mortal sin can be remedied by prayer
  prayer is seeking God’s grace and strengthening so that sin
             does not overcome us and spoil our life.
WE ARE OF GOD
1 John 5 18 We know that any one born of God does not sin, but
 He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not
touch him. 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world
                is in the power of the evil one.

              Belief in GOD through HIS SON
      assures the believer that s/he is not in mortal sin
     guarantees that s/he will be secure from the evil one
THE TRUE GOD
1 John 5 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has
 given us understanding, to know him who is true; and we are in
him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and
    eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

         Knowing everything we now know from 1 John,
                   we know him who is true
                  we are in him who is true
                we keep yourselves from idols.
THE TRUE GOD

2 Timothy 1 12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am
not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and
    am convinced that he is able to guard what I have
               entrusted to him for that day.
I KNOW WHOM I HAVE BELIEVÈD
    I know not why God’s wondrous grace
         To me He hath made known,
       Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love
          Redeemed me for His own.

                        Refrain
     But I know Whom I have believèd,
     And am persuaded that He is able
     To keep that which I’ve committed
         Unto Him against that day.
