In order to increase the ICT use in the public space of Barcelona, a common action is required from all the elements involved in the value chain to facilitate new services’ generation and an advanced management of public space This is the value chain that has been developed by the Barcelona City Council: identifying the significant tangible elements and software development. linking the activities developed in this tenure. analyzing and planning the futures activities to complete the model and setting a program to enable the collaboration with third parties (public or private) to keep this process on. The Municipal WiFi Network will allow the generation of new opportunities, innovative applications and an evolution towards more efficient city management models, within the framework of the intelligent cities development (Smart Cities). This network complements the Corporate Optical Fibre Network, providing connectivity to employees and services needed in the public thoroughfare The new network allows a permanent broadband extension throughout the city streets, aiming at providing connexion services, both fixed and mobile 469 active points 30% city coverage Totally operational Municipal Network: The Corporate WIFI Network

Improvement actions are continually made by the municipal units responsible for the Council services: Environment : Noise detection, pollution, fleet management, … Mobility : 140 installed cameras, 1.080 magnetic sensors, … TMB : 108 bus lines, 361MM subway trips per year, … These initiatives come from own municipal initiative or by facilitating pilot projects from innovative companies that offer short term solutions. The BUILD program emerges as a mixed sphere in the development of the Smart City model It is a program oriented to foster the participation of the private sector interested in the development of innovative activities within the Smart City model and related to the urban space management. Two types of relationships between the entities and the City Council are defined: Barcelona Urban Innovation Lab & Dev (BUILD) Program

Basic support model for the Barcelona innovation strategy: working since 2008 Companies can use the urban area of the 22@ to test and develop pilot trials for their new products and services (at pre-commercial stage).
