Create unique and
hard-to-guess
passwords.
Never keep the same
password for different
online accounts.
Avoid making your
personal information public
on social media sites and
the Internet in general.
Use your primary email
address to stay in touch
with people you know or
are acquainted with.
Avoid using your official
email address for social
media sites.
Never use personal
information such as name,
date of birth, address, etc.,
as a password.
Delete old accounts that
you do not use
anymore.
Before downloading any
free software, read up on
reviews about the
software and the website
hosting it.
Beware of files with
multiple extensions.
These are mostly virus.
Consider accessing your
bank’s website by
manually typing its URL in
the address bar.
Do not click on any links
in emails to access your
bank’s website.
Keep your Operating
System and software such
as Adobe, Java, web
browsers, etc., up-to-date.
Do not install software
that come as an
attachment in emails.
Always shop from
reputed and known
online stores.
Use an antivirus
software that offers
multilayered protection.
Change your Internet
banking passwords
regularly and never
share them with anyone.
Avoid downloading
software from
unverified publishers.
Choose passwords that
have a mix of uppercase
and lowercase letters,
numbers, and special
characters.
Avoid free, unsecured
Wi-Fi networks for
accessing websites that
require you to sign in to
access any information.
Accept friend requests
on social networks only
from people you know
and have met with in
person.
If you suspect that a
message from a friend
is fraudulent or strange,
call up or meet the
friend to discuss it.
Don’t root or jailbreak
your device. It will make
it vulnerable to viruses
and attackers.
Install apps only from
trusted and official
sources such as Google
Play and App Store.
Turn OFF Wi-Fi,
Location Services, and
Bluetooth when not in
use.
Avoid sending or saving
personal or sensitive
information on your
mobile device.
Do not install mobile
apps that ask for
unnecessary
permissions.
Never click on links or
download attachments
received in unknown,
unwanted or
unexpected emails.
Do not click on pop-up
ads when you visit
unknown or less
familiar websites.
Take regular backups
of your important
information and store
them in a secure
place.
Set up two-factor
authentication (2FA) for
your online accounts.
Check your bank
statements regularly to
prevent any fraudulent
activity.
