Getting your Students to work online Your course is complete now what do you do? Some Do’s and Don’ts  Successful Use and Integration of online Material To work online  Some students need no guidance but most students do.
Hands on Orientation sessions with students Especially important at the beginning!  Book your computer room check your connection,  get an ohp Put the students in pairs Set them three simple tasks and cirucluate Limit the information At least three a course
Writing Don’t set homework on paper  If something specific is required you can add and/or update via the webpage Correct and write compositions via the system Paper is for class!  Create the online habit. Use the internal message system to communicate via the system Get students into the habit of communicating absences or personal issues via message E-mail only for students who are absent
Tutor/Student Messages Write to your group everyweek This way students will have a good reason to visit the page Make student/student messages an integral part of activitiesç This way students will see the page as a good place for communication with others
Integration Explain the contents of each online unit step by step in class, via message and in the online unit Class:  board and verbal introductions, conclusions Weekly Message: Reiterating what the course has just covered, is covering, will cover (unit by unit, module by module) Online: periodic signposting unit by unit
Use the students! Use the students that work well to explain to the others how, what, where and when things are! Very important that tutors give quick feedback on the use of the page so that students know that there is someone on the other end! You can use course statistics to do this
Print outs! Give print outs of specific online activities You may dedicate some class time to actually to getting students to begin work on the print outs of activities
Create the online habit!   Purpose of the pilot:  Adapt courses with help from students! Record and respond to the feedback. Proactive tutors, proactive students
