“Those who seekthe
Lord understand it fully.”
Sermon adapted from,
Discovering Christ Day by Day, David Fortner
July 9
Today’s Reading: Proverbs 27-31
2.
Proverbs 28:5 NIVEvildoers do not understand
what is right, but those who seek the LORD
understand it fully.
3.
Other people arevexed and confused by the
Word of God, the ways of God, and the works of
God; but God’s saints understand all things.
This is not a matter of supposition, some theory,
but the plainest possible
declaration of inspiration.
4.
The wise mantells us,
“Evildoers do not understand what is right.”
Then he declares,
“but those who seek the LORD
understand it fully”
5.
I do notsuggest that religious people
understand all things, not by a long shot; but
the Lord God Himself proclaims that His people,
all who know Him by the saving operations of
His grace, all who are born of God and taught of
God, understand it fully.
6.
The contrast (andthe difference) is between the
wicked and those who seek the LORD.
Originally the idea of seeking the LORD meant
to obtain an oracle, (2 Sam. 21:1) but then it came
to mean devotion to God — seeking to learn and
do His will. Only people who are interested in
doing the LORD's will can fully understand
justice. Without that standard, legal activity can
become self-serving. (NET Notes)
7.
Believers understand thatthe origin of all things
is God. We understand that the end of all things
is the salvation of God’s elect and the glory of
His great name. God’s people understand the
nature of all things here is temporal.
8.
Everything here inthis sin-cursed earth is
temporal and vanishing. Every relationship in
this world is just temporal. Most importantly,
those who are taught of God understand all
things spiritual. This is what the Apostle John
tells us, But you have an anointing from the
Holy One, and all of you know the truth.
1 John 2:20 NIV
9.
All who areborn of God and taught of God have
the mind of Christ and understand all things
vital and necessary to the saving of their souls.
10.
We understand itis both the responsibility and the
joy of believers to give thanks to God for all
things.
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to
debauchery. Instead, be filled with the
Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms,
hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make
music from your heart to the Lord, always giving
thanks to God the Father for everything, in the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:18-20 NIV
Thanks for All Things
11.
In the contextPaul is talking about walking in
the Spirit and being filled with the Spirit.
The Spirit filled life is the life of a believer
giving thanks to God.
1 Thessalonians 5:16 NIV Rejoice always, 17
pray continually, 18 give thanks in all
circumstances; for this is God's will for you in
Christ Jesus.
12.
It is bothour duty and our great privilege to give
thanks to God always and for all things.
It glorifies God for us to praise Him and give
thanks to Him.
It breeds joy and peace in our own hearts and
among our brethren for us to ever give thanks to
God for all things.
13.
There is cominga time of refreshing when
everything will be restored.
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins
may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may
come from the Lord, and that he may send the
Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even
Jesus. Heaven must receive him until the time
comes for God to restore everything, as he
promised long ago through his holy prophets.
Acts 3:19-21 NIV
Refreshing & Restitution of All Things
14.
In that greatand glorious day, when all things
are brought to their final end, when time shall be
no more, all things will glorify our God!
Everything that has been, is now, or shall
hereafter be, all things, all events, all creatures,
and all the actions of all creatures, whether
good or evil, will praise Him and will prove to
have been good!
15.
Everything, even youand I, will glorify the triune
God one way or another.
We will either glorify His grace in Christ in our
everlasting salvation; or, like Pharaoh, we will
glorify His power and wrath in our everlasting
destruction; but we will all glorify God!
16.
Revelation 21:7 NIVThose who are victorious
will inherit all this, and I will be their God and
they will be my children.
All true believers may rightfully sing,
“We shall overcome some day!”
We shall at last, by the grace of God, completely
overcome sin and all its consequences.
Inherit All Things
17.
We shall inthe end overcome this world,
all its lusts and all its charms,
by the power and grace of our God.
By God’s free grace in Christ,
we shall overcome Satan, too.
18.
David Fortner, thewriter of the lesson, shares a
personal story; “Many years ago, when my
doctors thought I was about to die, and I was
fairly certain that they were right, I got a card
from a friend that lifted my spirit to heaven
itself.
It was totally blank,
except for a Scripture reference.
On the inside,
my friend simply wrote the reference.
19.
When I turnedto it and read the text, my soul
melted within me and leaped with joy in the
realization of the promise contained in that text.
Listen to this word from God to all His people.
If you are a believer, this is God’s word to you.”
Romans 16:20 NIV The God of peace will soon
crush Satan under your feet.
The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
20.
Then, we shallinherit all things,
by the grace of God.
We shall inherit all things with Christ,
in Christ,
and for Christ’s sake!
21.
We who aretaught of God also understand…
1 Peter 4:7 NIV The end of all things is near.
Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you
may pray. 8 Above all, love each other deeply,
because love covers over a multitude of sins.
9 Offer hospitality to one another without
grumbling.
End of All Things
22.
10 Each ofyou should use whatever gift you
have received to serve others, as faithful
stewards of God's grace in its various forms. 11
If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who
speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves,
they should do so with the strength God
provides, so that in all things God may be
praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the
glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
23.
Revelation 1:7 NIV"Look, he is coming with the
clouds," and "every eye will see him, even those
who pierced him"; and all peoples on earth "will
mourn because of him." So shall it be! Amen.
“He is Coming!”
24.
When our greatand glorious Christ appears in the
sky the trumpet will sound, then the end of all things
will come.
The End of All Our Troubles!
The End of All Our Struggles!
The End of All Our Toils!
The End of All Our Trials!
The End of All Our Temptations!
The End of All Our Sins!
The End of All Our Sorrows!
25.
God’s saints allunderstand this, too.
The Lord our God has done all things well!
When the end of my days on this earth comes,
when I look over my life’s finished story,
I am confident, this will be my final word then.
When the end of all things has come, and time
shall be no more, this will be the final word of all
His-Story, and of all rational creatures:
Done All Things Well
26.
Mark 7:36 NIVJesus commanded them not to
tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more
they kept talking about it. 37 People were
overwhelmed with amazement. "He has done
everything well," they said. "He even makes the
deaf hear and the mute speak."
Done All Things Well
27.
This I declarenow; and this I will declare in that
great day, when time shall be no more.
“He has done everything well”
with me and mine!
“He has done everything well”
with His church!
“He has done everything well”
with His world!
He has done everything well”
with you and yours!
When He didthis He solved 2
problems we all have.
He solved our sin
problem because
He nailed our sins
to the cross; &
He solved our grave
problem when He rose
from the dead because
it proved we could also
rise from the dead.
32.
Jesus said, ifwe want to get in on of all
this we must . . .
BE BORN AGAIN.
FOLLOW HIM; &

34.
He said tothem, "Go into all the world and
preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever
believes and is baptized will be saved, but
whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Mark 16:15,16 NIV
35.
"Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people." "Praise the
Lord, all you Gentiles; let all the peoples extol him."
"The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise
to rule over the nations; in him the Gentiles will
hope." May the God of hope fill you with all joy and
peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow
with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. I myself
am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you
yourselves are full of goodness, filled with
knowledge and competent to instruct one another.

Numbers 6:24 NIV'"The LORD bless you and
keep you; 25 the LORD make his face shine on
you and be gracious to you; 26 the LORD turn
his face toward you and give you peace."'
