Notice the use of If in the questions and your answers. Do
you know what kind of sentence is this? Do you know why
we use this and how should we use it correctly?
WHAT IS CONDITIONAL
SENTENCE?
1. If I were the daughter, I would love my
father with all my heart.
2. If I were the father, I would do the same.
CONDITIONALS
 These are the statements
expressing the results of a
particular condition.
 It has two parts: the if-clause and
the result clause (main clause).
• If-clause / when -clause present the condition
while the main clause explains the results.
Ex.
If you pray hard for it, you will receive it.
When I am done with this, I’ll get my car to fetch
me.
I’ll call your mom unless Jerome admits his faults.

• Conditional statements may appear in both
affirmative and negative structures.
Ex.
• If you forget it, you will not see it again.
(affirmative)
• If you can't forget it, you will see it again.
(negative)
• In statement, conditionals may appear first
before the main clause. If the main clause
appears before conditionals, the meaning
of the sentence remains the same.
Examples:
When you pray, God listens.
God listens when you pray.

Types of Conditionals
ZERO CONDITIONAL
• Zero Conditional
• ✅ Use:
• To express general truths, facts, laws of
nature, and habits that are always or
generally true.
• ✅ Structure:
• If/When + Present Simple, Present Simple
EXAMPLE:
Condition (If/When...) Result (Main Clause)
If you heat water to
100°C, it boils.
When it rains, the grass gets wet.
When you mix red and
blue,
you get purple.
If babies are hungry, they cry.
🌞 First Conditional
✅ When do we use it?
• We use the first conditional to talk
about things that might happen in the
future if something else happens.
✅ Structure:
• If + present simple, will + verb
EXAMPLE:
If... (condition) will... (result)
If it rains,
I will take my
umbrella.
If I study, I will get a gold
star.
If we go to the
park,
we will play on the
swings.
✅ Structure:
If + present simple, will + verb
SECOND CONDITIONAL
• We use this when we are talking about things
that are not real now — just a dream or an
idea.
✏️Structure:
• If + past tense, would + action

• If I had a pet dinosaur, I would ride it to

(It’s not real — just a fun idea!)
• If I were a bird, I would fly in the sky. ☁️

(We can’t be birds, but it’s fun to imagine!)

• We use this when we talk about something
in the past that didn’t happen — and we
imagine a different result.
