6. What have you learnt about technologies from the
       process of constructing this product?
I have learnt a lot in terms of technology, through the process of constructing my media products. I now
have skills in software that I had never used until now, for example Quark Express. I had also never used
an SLR camera, and internet sites such as Slideshare and Prezi.
Technology and software that I have used are:

Adobe Photoshop
To create my music magazine front cover I used Adobe Photoshop.
• I have used Photoshop in the past and so I was familiar with the tools and what each of them do. I
found editing my front cover fairly easy and quite quick to do.
• However, there were a few things that I was stuck on. For example, I didn't know how to get the title
behind Becky's head without chunks of it being hidden. I was shown how to duplicate a layer and rub
out the title neatly around the image. I’m glad I was taught this because it makes my magazine look
professional.
• Photoshop allowed me to add images, edit images, edit text (for example, adding a drop shadow) and
add shapes. It enabled me to create a more professional looking product.

Quark Express
To create my magazine contents page and double page spread I used Quark Express.
• I had never used Quark Express before and so at first, I found it a little difficult and confusing to use.
However, I soon got used to it and found it rather easy.
• This programme allowed me to import my images and resize them and also import my text into
columns. It also allowed me to add a drop cap at the beginning of the article and a drop quote in the
middle of the article.
Displaying my Work
Up until now, I had never heard of Prezi or Slideshare, let alone use them. However, I learnt how to
use them very quickly and have become useful in terms of displaying my work.

• Prezi allows me to create a powerpoint, but with special effects that include a pan and zoom. I can
also add text, shapes, colour and pathways. It makes an ordinary powerpoint come to life and is
more exciting to watch and make.

• Slideshare gives me the ability to share presentations, documents and professional videos and put
them on my blog. This is easy and quick to use.

• Other technologies that I have used are video recorders and voice recorders. These have also been
used to display and record my work.

SLR cameras
I had also never used an SLR camera. However, I am glad that I have in the making of my media
products as I am much happier with the images that I now have.

•Although SLR cameras have many more buttons and are a little confusing to use, they are much
better to use as:
• The images are much clearer and sharper
• You can see the difference between an SLR camera and an ordinary camera (in the images)
