RESEARCH
For my research I created a survey on a website called
‘SurveyMonkey’. I asked various questions related to the topic of
photography such as; ‘Do you take photos?’ or ‘Which do you
prefer; Greyscale or Bright/Vibrant?’. The responses I received from
my audience was quite spread out. I got various different responses
on each question, which gave me an idea about what my audience
would prefer and what they wouldn’t prefer. I also researched into
various products related to my own. I was able to see what works
best with different products e.g. colour-wise and the images used.
These types of research were helpful because they gave me an idea
as to what would work best for my product as well as what my
audience would like for my product to be. The problem that I had
with my research was that I didn’t go into much detail with my
questions on my survey, so the answers I received from my
audience were quite vague. If I could improve my research I would
improve my survey and ask more detailed questions. Another
problem with my research was that the lack of detail from my
questions and the responses I got made it harder to create a
product that my intended audience would like. When I asked the
question ‘Which do you prefer; Greyscale or Bright/Vibrant?’ the
response was that 47.06% preferred Greyscale and 41.18% preferred
Bright/Vibrant colours. An additional 11.76% said over wise. I
decided that I would create two of the same image, using both
effects to see what would work best.
PLANNING
For my planning I created two mock-up ideas for what I wanted my
final product to look like. Planning helped me when making my
final product since I already had an idea of what I wanted to make
from the two mock-up ideas I had created from before. I wanted to
create two different versions of the same image, using both the
Greyscale effect as well as Bright/Vibrant colours. If I could have
improved my planning I would have redone my two mock-up ideas
and experiment with different colours and images rather than just
simple colours or the greyscale effect. The problem with my
planning is that I didn’t go into much detail explaining why I chose
various colours and why they match with the image. Another
problem is that my images are quite simple as well as also having
quite simple colouring. If I could have improved my planning I
would have used my research to help me decide on which colours I
should use for my images based off of the responses I received
from my audience.
TIME MANAGEMENT
I managed my time well by getting as much done as possible in
lessons as well as using my free time at college to get everything
finished. I think that my products would have looked better if I had
gotten additional time, but I still think that my final product turned
out well in the end. If I had additional time to improve my final
product I would make it so that it doesn’t look as simple by adding
more text
TECHNICAL QUALITIES
A similarity between the
two magazine covers is
that they both have the
same theme; nature.
A difference is that one
has more of an in-
depth image rather than
just a close up. This
makes the other
product look more
professional than mine.
Another similarity is
that both magazines
have the same sort of
layout. Both having the
main text at the top of
the page and an image
Another difference is that you are able to see a form of
reflection in the first product, which could be seen as some
sort of effect on the image. But my product doesn’t have
any effects added to it.
AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I think that my final product looked good as a result. I
liked the fonts I used for the front cover since they
were quite cursive instead of looking plain and boring.
I think that having these two fonts for the front cover
made it look a lot better than it had before. I also liked
how the image was in the centre of the front cover,
which would make the audience more drawn to it and
see the image straight away. If I could improve any
aspects of my product I would improve the layout and
how I presented everything. I think that my work was
sort of creative, meaning it looked unique. I would
also want to change how much I present on the front
cover, to make it look less simplistic. I could have
added more text to my front cover or added more
than just one photo. My product is creative because
it’s quite simplistic but also original.
AUDIENCE APPEAL
I think that my product appeals to my target
audience. My product will appeal to my audience
because it includes bright /vibrant colours which,
in my questionnaire, my audience preferred rather
than using greyscale effects. I believe that this will
also appeal to my audience because it’s quite
simplistic, meaning my audience would be able to
see what my product was and what it is about. I
think that the font I used are quite effective since
they’re cursive and not plain looking. I think this
will help to appeal my audience since it will give
them more to look at. If I could edit my product to
make them appeal more, I would make it look
complex and exciting in order to make my
audience more interested. I could also have added
more photos to show off the different kinds of
photos I’ve taken to help show the theme of my
photography, which is nature and wildlife.
PEER

What did you like about the product?
 I like how simplistic it is. I also like the different fonts you
used at the top of the cover.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
 You could have added more photos to the cover, to show the
audience the different variety of photos you’ve taken.
FEEDBACK 2

photo in the middle of the page, so you able to clearly see
what it is. I also like how you’ve positioned the font at the top
of the page.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
 You could have added more photos to the cover, to show the
audience the different variety of photos you’ve taken.
PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
 I agree with my feedback. I agree that I could have added
more than just one photo to make my product look more
impactful. I think that if I had additional time I could have
made a better product that would be more effective toward
my audience.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
 I don’t disagree much with the feedback I received, since I
believe that I could’ve added more photos to my product to
make it look more impactful. But I do think that my product
was good and had a sort of impact on my audience, from the
way I took the photo and the variety of bright /vibrant
colours.
PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
I would change the layout of my product, by adding different photos
to show off the theme I chose for my photography magazine, which
was ‘nature’. I would try and experiment with different fonts to see if I
could improve the way my front cover looks. I could use my
questionnaire to see what my audience would think would work best
for my cover. I could also use different photos from different locations
and make them into a form of collage. If I could improve any aspects
of my product I would improve the layout and how I presented
everything. I think that my work was sort of creative, meaning it
looked unique. I would also want to change how much I present on the
front cover, to make it look less simplistic. I could have added more
text to my front cover or added more than just one photo. My product
is creative because it’s quite simplistic but also original. . I chose to
use a simple font for this image because I don’t want the audience to
focus on the font but on the image itself. I could try and use different
fonts to see what would work and also if I needed to change the font
from what it is now to something else.
