Summary of "Harry Potter Books 1-5"

These books are about the young wizard Harry Potter, who is attending the
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Every book represents one
school year. Books 1-5 have been published so far, and book 6 and 7 are
still to be published. Here follows a short summary of the five books.
Book 1: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
The first book about Harry Potter and his adventures starts at Privet Drive
number four, where an eleven-year-old Harry lives with his aunt, uncle and
cousin. He doesn't have his own room, instead the Dursleys lets him live in a
very small cupboard under the stairs. At the same time his cousin Dudley is
spoiled rotten with a big room and lots of toys. This all changes when Harry
is accepted at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Soon Harry learns how to cast spells, mix potions and broomstick flying. He
also learns that his parents, who are now dead, were once magicians who
were killed by the man widely known as "he who must not be named".
Voldemort is his real name and he disappeared - presumably dead - when he
tried to kill Harry ten years ago.
During Harry’s first year at Hogwarts he has to find the sorcerer's stone
before it is stolen. This stone has magical powers and it can make the owner
immortal. It can furthermore transform any metal into gold.

Book 2: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
School is closed during summer and Harry has been at Privet Drive No. 4
during the whole summer holiday. He is longing for the school year to start
so that he can meet his friends and get away from the Dursleys. As the
summer is coming to an end Harry is warned by a house-elf, that he must
not return to school, because then he will be in danger.
Naturally Harry ignores this; and when he and his friend Ron are on their
way to their first day they miss the train for some unknown reason. Weird
things also happen at Hogwarts. Harry hears things that no one else can
hear; words about killing. Someone or something is turning students into

stone, and words are mysteriously written on the wall "The chamber of
secrets has been opened. Enemies of the heir, beware".

Book 3: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The summer holiday at the Dursleys abruptly ends when Harry uses his
magic in their house, something which is strictly forbidden for the Hogwarts
students. It could result in expulsion. At Azkaban - the wizards' prison -
there is a breakout. A man known as Sirius Black escapes and heads for
Hogwarts. In his sleep Sirius has been saying "He's at Hogwarts, he's at
Hogwarts", and the Ministry of Magic fears that Harry's life is in danger. The
Ministry sends the Dementors (Azkaban guards) to Hogwarts to protect him.
But can the Dementors be trusted? The Dementors are horrible creatures
that make Harry very uncomfortable and he comes to fear them more than
Sirius.

Book 4: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Year four at Hogwarts will be a different year for the students. Harry's
favorite sport Quidditch has been cancelled, and instead there will be a
Triwizard Tournament between three wizards' schools. The three schools are
Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang.
The Goblet of Fire will chose one champion from each school, and there are
three magical tasks that the champions will have to complete. The
tournament will take place during the whole school year, and the rules
stipulate that the champions must be at least 17 years old to compete. This
is because the tasks are very dangerous, and this also means that Harry is
too young for the tournament. But will this stop him?

Book 5: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
In the summer before the school start Harry is in trouble once again.
Dementors show up in the muggle world and attack him and his cousin.
After this attack Harry is immediately taken to the Order of the Phoenix's
headquarters for protection.

In this the fifth book Voldemort is back for sure. Harry knows it. The
headmaster Dumbledore knows it. However, not everyone believes that
Voldemort has returned. The Ministry of Magic refuses to acknowledge his
return. Instead they appoint a new Defence against the dark arts teacher at
Hogwarts, someone who can teach the students the Ministry's view on this.

Why should you read these books about a young wizard? Because they are
easy and fun to read, and the plots are very good in all five books. Rowling
is a talented writer and the books are very well written with humor,
intelligence and vivid imagination. Reading these books makes you wish that
you were back in school; back in a magical school like Hogwarts and learning
magic just like Harry Potter.

For those still unfamiliar with the story, Harry Potter is a young wizard, whose wizard parents were killed by the evil Wizard
Lord Voldemort when Harry was just a year old. Voldemort had tried to kill Harry too, but his curse backfired. Instead of killing
Harry, it seemed to have destroyed Voldemort. Harry become the one and only person to have survived the killing curse, but
because he was now an orphan, he was left on the doorstep of his aunt and uncle, Petunia and Vernon Dursley, by Professor
Dumbledore, an old and wise wizard, who also happens to be headmaster of the wizarding school Hogwarts.

The Dursleys, who are "Muggles" (non-wizards), have a son of their own, about the same age as Harry. They lavish praise and
gifts on their son, while mistreating Harry and depriving him of all but his very basic needs. On Harry's eleventh birthday, he
receives an invitation to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and from then on his life takes quite a different
turn. Instead of dealing with the Dursleys, he must now spend each year at school battling Lord Voldemort, who had not died, but
had become less than human and is trying to return to power.

Harry along with his friends attends the third year at Hogwarts School. Convicted murderer Sirius Black escapes
Azkaban prison and Professor R.J. Lupin is appointed as Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. The Dementors of
Azkaban are handed over the responsibility of guarding Hogwarts against Black. This series deals with Harry Potter
learning about his past and his connection with this escaped prisoner.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
At the fourth year at Hogwarts School, a legendary event is hosted at the school, the Triwizard Tournament. Frequent
nightmares are bothering Harry while a new DADA professor Alastor Moody is appointed. The tournament is held
between three European schools wherein three champions from each school would represent their team. Fleur
Delacour, Viktor Krum and Cedric Diffory are chosen by the Goblet of Fire to compete in the tournament. Surprisingly,
Harry is also chosen to compete as the fourth champion. This starts the competition with a terrifying outcome.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry is attacked by Dementors in Little Whinging in the fifth year of school. The Ministry of Magic is unknown of the

the Dark Arts teacher is taken over by Professor Umbridge, a representative of Ministry of Magic headed by Cornelius
Fudge. The film mainly revolves around the students of Hogwart, secret organization Order of the Phoenix, the

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
In the sixth year at Hogwarts School, Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters continue to terrorize the Wizarding and
Muggle worlds. Horace Slughorn returns back to Hogwarts as a professor more for a secret reason. Harry gets hold
of strangely annotated school textbook containing astonishing information which is inscribed as ‘This is the property
of the Half-Blood Prince’. Dumbledore and Harry decide to destroy Voldemort once and for all but there are dangers
closing towards the Hogwarts.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
At the final year of witchcraft and wizardry schooling, Voldemort makes several attempts to stop Harry, Ron and
Hermione from attending school. The three undergo a long journey in destroying Voldemort.

The Boy Who Lived...

around Harry during his studies at Hogwarts, Harry learns of the reasons why he has magical powers,
who his parents are and how they died, and his connection with the man who killed them, the evil
wizard Lord Voldemort.

In his early years at Hogwarts, Harry learns of how Lord Voldemort killed Harry's parents and even tried
to kill Harry as well. But mysteriously Voldemort was defeated and believed to have died while Harry
survived having only the scar on his forehead as proof of their encounter. In the first four books
Voldemort, who is not dead but merely in hiding and trying to regain his lost powers, have tried to kill
Harry using different methods from the shadows, but thanks to the help of his friends Ron and
Hermione, Harry and the forces of good always triumphs in the end.

Voldemort Returns...

In the end of the fourth book, Lord Voldemort has regained his old body and his full powers as well. At
this time he openly declares war on Hogwarts and the entire wizarding world. At this time the story
revolving around Harry has become less of a mystery and changed onto something that is more of a
conflict between two warring factions. At this point Albus Dumbledore decides that he can no longer
protect Harry from Voldemort, so he decides to train Harry personally on the ways of magic.

While under Dumbledore's tutelage, Harry becomes a more powerful wizard that is able to protect
himself and others. He gets to show what he has learned from Dumbledore when Voldemort's army,
mostly composed of escaped convicts from Azkaban (the high-security prison for evil wizards), attacked
Harry and his friends.

Dumbledore Dies...

In the sixth book of the series "The Half-blood Prince," Dumbledore tells Harry of the only way that
Voldemort can be defeated. Voldemort has divided his soul and placed them in various objects called
Horcruxes and hid them all over the wizarding world, to defeat Voldemort they need to destroy all of
the Horcruxes.

Dumbledore and Harry thus set out on a mission to destroy the containers of Lord Voldemort's soul, but
an unexpected traitorous act tragically ends the life of Albus Dumbledore, leaving Harry wondering just
how they can expect to defeat the evil of Voldemort now. In the last book "The Deathly Hollows," Harry
finds out that he himself is a Horcrux. This forces him to make a decision that could either destroy or
save the wizarding world.
