Petruchio and Kate arrive at Petruchio's country house where the servants prepare for them. However, Petruchio pretends to be angry with the servants and claims the food is burned in order to frustrate Kate and train her to obey him like a falcon. In Padua, Tranio uses deceptions to remove competition for Lucentio in his pursuit of Bianca. He convinces Hortensio to pursue a wealthy widow instead and finds a pedant to act as Lucentio's father, allowing Lucentio and Bianca's courtship to continue.
