Analyze The Leaner
 This lesson is planned for a class of 4th grade regular
education students. The class is made up of 16
students, 10 girls and 6 boys. They are between the
ages of 10-11 years old. There is two ethnicities
represented, 80% white and 20% African American.
Only about 10% of the students have heard of
American Sign Language(ASL).
Main Objective
 A class of 4th grade students will develop an
understanding of American Sign Language (ASL) and
the people who use it and will demonstrate a basic
conversation between two people using sign language.
The students will do this by making posters, learning
how to sign a familiar song, and video taping a
conversation between different students in their group
with an 85% accuracy by the end of the week.
Day by Day
 Day One: History Behind American Sign Language
 Day Two: Reasons for Learning Sign Language
 Day Three: Who uses Sign Language
 Day Four: Signing the Alphabet
 Day Five: Commonly used Signs and Questions (Ex.
Bathroom, Yes & No, Sorry, Food, Name, etc.)
Technology
 Posters: The Students will be put into groups and I
will give each group a specific person who is in the
Deaf Community. They will have to research and
make a poster about the person they have been given
and then present it to the class.
 YouTube Videos: The Students will use a YouTube
video to help learn how to sign a song familiar to them.
 Video Cameras: The groups will have to make a video
of them having a conversation only through Sign
Language.
