Analysis of my film trailer

     By Jonny Maddock
Camera angles
• I used an establishing shot at the start of the trailer to
show the audience where the events are taking place, I
think this is effective as it includes the whole house and
has a spooky effect with the light turning off.
• After this I have used an over the shoulder shot so the
audience can see what's coming but the character can’t
which adds tension to the scene as the character is
  seemingly helpless
• I also used a close-up of the phone so you could see
that the caller is unknown, this makes the scene even
more atmospheric and adds suspense as the character
doesn’t know who the caller is but the audience does.
Camera angles continued….
• Another camera angle I used was the Point-Of-View to
give it an authentic view from the viewer, both when he
turns around to there is nothing behind him as well as
when he is walking towards the door as the viewer has
some kind of idea who is behind it see but the viewer
  doesn’t.
Equipment used for the trailer
• For the trailer I used a black beanie that went over the
face of Jordy, I used this to add anonymity as this is a
common convention of thriller films is that you don’t
actually know who the antagonist is.

I also used a flip camera lent from my Sixth Form college
and my Sony Xperia S mobile phone, I used the flip
camera as it came with a tripod which was good for still
shots and used my Sony Mobile as it had a 12
megapixel camera which made good quality clips.
Location
• I was lucky as my whole trailer was filmed
in one place which was my friend Jordans
house so it was also a convenient place to
  film.
I also decided to film both in the day and
night time so that I had two different
effects and to show that this is set over a
few hours like a lot of thrillers, not over
afew days or a longer time span.
People involved
• In my trailer there were actually very little
people involved in my project, there was
me who filmed all the clips as well as
staring in some clips and my fellow media
studies student jordan who was a
  character in the trailer.
Audio
• I used the website freesound.org for my sound in my trailer as
from the beginning we were told we could only use sound that
was copyright free which this site has on it. I used the sound
‘atmospheric sound 2’ which added tension and a spooky
element to the trailer and I also used ‘crickets 5’ for the clip of
the establishing shot as it ties in with the fact in shot is outside
in the dark but got rid of this for my final trailer as some of the
feedback was that it didnt sound authenic.
• Other sound I used was a knocking of the door, this made the
clip very tense as we as the viewers have an idea whats
behind the door but the character doesnt. A creepy effect is
also added when the character walking behind says on the
  phone’ I can see you’
