Connecting the World Multimedia Conferencing System (MCS)
Technology trends today indicate that the world of communications is converging. Voice, video and data are all merging into one carrier base : Internet Protocol (IP). Whoever manages to make the above a reality, with the ability to use current infrastructure and generic PCs , will become the world leader in multimedia communications. Technology Trends
1st Generation : POINT TO POINT Legacy Systems Proprietary ISDN
2nd Generation : POINT TO MULTIPOINT Current Systems MCU ISDN ISDN ISDN ISDN ISDN / MCU Based Systems The above mentioned technologies are loosing money and market share. They have realized their mistakes and are now working hard toward IP based solutions. MCU based ISDN systems, running proprietary protocols
MULTIPOINT TO MULTIPOINT to multipoint.. Internet or IP Network Video PABX of the future, where every office can be connected to each other via Intranets or the Internet. Cost of communications: RM 0.00
Current System Requires dedicated ISDN lines to the desktop and Boardrooms, which mean additional infrastructure. Expensive MCU (Hub) is needed for mixing and re-transmitting. Expensive WAN link is proprietary and dedicated to video conferencing only. Expensive WAN bandwidth increases proportionally with each new user. Use your existing LAN infrastructure. Zero additional infrastructure cost. Do not require an expensive MCU. It uses a server. IP-based and merges with your existing corporate WAN link or uses the Internet. WAN bandwidth needs remain constant, irrespective of the number of users. Research Areas of Future System Problems of Today
MCS Version 5.0 presents a MULTIPOINT-TO-MULTIPOINT system that has unique features overcome the disadvantages of current systems: Allows multipoint desktop and boardroom conferencing using your existing LAN infrastructure, without effecting your current applications. No expensive MCU is required. MCS uses the non-proprietary IP protocol and runs over your existing network lines and even over the Internet. The required WAN or Internet bandwidth remains constant, no matter how many sites join the conference.
