TargetAudience
Our film was created to be aimed at 15-18
year old's both male and female and we
believe that our film created was correctly
aimed at this target audience.
We chose this target audience based on
the films we researched, such as Silent
Hill who all aimed their films at
approximately the same target audience.
Introduction
In my media production, the opening sequence for the horror film; Lurking in the
Dark, I tried to appeal to a certain target audience, which is really important to do
in the very opening of the film that we made as a group. To attract the audience,
we had to make sure our key features were met. We aimed for a movie based on
a target audience of teens, with a rating of 15 so the audience age is not too
restricted and we wanted to keep the category of age as 16-25 year olds. Once
we had figured out the targeted audience we had to think of the different aspects
that would attract this audience and how these would help to maintain the interest
of the viewers.
ThroughCameraWork
We attracted our audience through many
things including use of shots. This shot
which would help to attract our audience
who like the horror/thriller genre would be
the over the shoulder shot, which puts the
viewer directly into the movie and creates
the feeling that they are standing there
with the protagonist. However it also
looked very haunted which fits with the
horror/thriller genre of our film and
therefore it creates suspense and tension.
ThroughCameraWork
This wide shot shows shows the viewer that
the main character Rosalie is just like them; a
normal teenager who often enjoys exploring.
The shot also highlights her vulnerability and
how alone she is, this attracts viewers
because it illustrates that Rosalie may not be
alone, which entices the viewer and makes
them want to see more, adding even more
suspense.
ThroughSound
The first piece of sound we hear is non diegetic dialogue of a small girl. This on its
own immediately attracts viewers, as it forces them to listen to what the child is
saying, the fact that it is a child also suggest to the audience that something so
innocent has been corrupted by something evil. We then hear the same child in
the final part of the sequence calling out for the main character, this is used as a
cliffhanger, leaving the viewers wanting to know what has happened to Rosalie.
ThroughMiseEnScene
The costuming chose for the doll-like character attracts
the audience as the white portrays a sense of innocence,
seeing as this is the first character we are introduced to
after Rosalie, she is somewhat of significance. Her overall
appearance slowly becomes more sinister, this is also
done through camerawork. As we see in the top shot her
full appearance in a white, delicate dress, where as the
Point Of View shot below shows the audience what she
looks like through the eyes of the main character, the fact
that her hair covers her face in this shot, gives the
production a sense of mystery, and because of this makes
the viewer want to see more.

The use of the techniques used overall helped attract my
audience. This is evident as one viewer said “I was not
expecting that child in the beginning, she creeped me out a
little, when she yelled wait I was on my toes”
