Assure Methods for Lesson Four: Create Decorations
A – Analyze Learners - I am teaching a seventh grade classroom that
includes 22 students, 14 of them are girls and the remaining 8 are boys. The
class has a couple of different ethnicities contained it; the majority of them
are white, yet there are a few African Americans and Latinos in our
classroom. My students are mainly visual and auditory learners; however,
there are some sensual and active learners as well in our class.
S – State Objectives – After reviewing a Pinterest account with various
examples of decorations and completing a WebQuest, Seventh Grade
students will demonstrate their knowledge of El Dia de los Muertos
decorations and their meanings by completing the task from the WebQuest
and complete an assigned decoration with 90% accuracy.
S – Select Media, Methods, and Materials – 1. WebQuest- Students will take
a journey through the holiday of the Day of the Dead and create decorations
for the class celebration during the next lesson. 2. Pinterest – Pinterest is a
Web 2.0 application and our class will use Pinterest in order to obtain an
idea of what El Dia de los Muertos decorations are supposed to look like.
U – Utilize Media, Methods, and Materials – I created the WebQuest for this
lesson in my unit plan, so I do know that it is appropriate for teaching my
Seventh Grade students what the decorations for El Dia de los Muertos are
all about. Also, I have reviewed the Pinterest account that my students will
use a reference, so I know that is suitable for my students to navigate
through. I will continue to remind my students of my high expectations that
I have for them. They will be held responsible for having respect for other
people’s native holidays and cultures while we create the decorations for our
celebration.
R – Require Learners Participation – During this lesson, the students will
have to participate throughout the whole thing. This lesson is all about
creating the decorations in order for our class to be able to decorate our
classroom for our class celebration. Also, during their WebQuest the
students have to be attentive throughout the whole thing because without
understanding the meaning of the decorations, they wouldn’t be able to
create them. The Day of the Dead decorations are all about the meaning
behind them, so my students will be able to display their knowledge of the
decorations by creating them. This holiday is a very meaningful holiday and I
hope my students are able to get something out of studying the Spanish
holiday.
E – Evaluate and Revise – I will revise my lesson plan as much as I need to
in order to obtain my stated objective. By assessing the students’ knowledge
on the decorations through their completion of a WebQuest, I will be able to
figure out if I accomplished my objective or not. I will also see how effective
the technology used in this lesson plan by getting feedback from my
students through their assignments and through normal class discussion.
