Mathilde's devoted husband who is content with his humble lifestyle  Madame Forestier. Mathilde's wealthy friend  George Ramponneau and Madame George Ramponneau. SUMMARY: The Necklace several hundred years ago. Mathilde Loisel lives in a flat with her husband, who works as a clerk for the Minister of Education. Their lives are not luxurious, but they are not poor, merely simple. Mathilde, however, longs to be rich. She envies her friend Jeanne who has a large house and lots of jewelry. One day her husband brings home an invitation to a ball. He thinks his wife will be excited to attend such a fancy party, but instead she is upset. She complains that she has nothing suitable to wear to such an extravagant occasion. Her kind husband agrees to give her the four hundred francs that he had been saving to buy a new rifle to get herself a gown. The week of the party, Mathilde seems anxious again. When her husband asks her why, she frets that she has no jewelry to wear with her dress. He suggests that perhaps she could borrow something from her friend Jeanne Forestier. Mathilde goes to Jeanne's house and picks out a sparkling diamond necklace to borrow. She and her husband attend the gala and have a fabulous time. She loves amazing and dances all night. Finally, they head home in the wee hours of the morning. When they arrive home, Mathilde realizes that the necklace is missing. They wonder if it fell off in the carriage that they took home, but neither of them noticed the number. Her husband goes out to search the streets but returns empty handed. To stall for time, Mathilde writes to her friend that she broke the clasp and is having it repaired. In the meantime, they find another necklace that matches the missing one, but it costs thirty-six thousand francs. Her husband fortunately inherited eighteen thousand francs from his father, but they will need to borrow the rest of the money. Finally, they have enough to purchase the replacement necklace and Mathilde gives it to Jeanne who doesn't even look at it. PLOT: The Necklace is a short story by Guy de Maupassant in which the main character Madame Mathilde Loisel aspires to be a member of high society however lives apoor existence. She replaces the necklace without telling her friend she has lost it, however this places her in great debt. THEME: One of the central themes of "The Necklace" is that of appearance vs. reality. For Mathilde, the necklace symbolizes wealth, beauty, and, ultimately, shame, as she loses the necklace and goes into debt to replace it. The great irony of the story is that the necklace was a fake. Mathilde spends ten years in debt, effectively ruining her life over nothing.

  Jerbie N. Llorin HUMSS12-C (bmd) I learn that life is not what we expected to be and do what you want to do in your life you cannot bring back the past environment. But we can change them to a new or better environment and we need to learn more on our environment and start to believe on yourself and be more creative, kind, smart, fast action, brave. We need to develop our new skills and we are the key to change our environment and I learn if I study hard there is a possible that I can help our environment. As a student this is the key to help our environment. I do feel excited like it’s the best thing ever. Because as a student I learn so much on our interview and I feel so happy and shy to and it was new experiences for me to interview a person like him while we are talking to she we feel the message that she saying to us and also I ask her how much she miss the old environment. Interviewing she is like blessed because she giving us fresh idea and new knowledge and new experience for me. I am willing to learn more and to take some action on our environment and I will volunteer to help my community to understand the issues of our environment to tell them what they can do to help the environment and we need to move as one to protect and our environment. I should change the way I travel to various places. For example, I should start using a bike or travel to school by feet, because cars are powered by fuel and other gases which pollute the environment. I could also use public transport because it’s not as bad as a car.I should save energy by turning off unnecessary things like lamps in empty rooms, heating systems and TV’s which are not watched by anyone. Energy is a very lethal product in my life, and i should be saving it up, because we usually use more of it than we can produce.
