INTRODUCTION
AutoCAD is a CAD (Computer Aided Design or
Computer Aided Drafting) software for 2D and 3D
design and drafting.
With AutoCAD you can:
▪ Quickly create designs
▪ Improved quality over hand drafting
▪ Can be customized to suit the individual’s needs
▪ Teaches a marketable skill

DRAWING SPACE
• Model space: Where you create and modify the objects that
represent things in the real world — walls, widgets, waterways, or
whatever.
• Paper (Layout) space: Where you create views of these objects for
plotting, usually with a title block around them. Paper space
comprises one or more layouts, each of which can contain a
different arrangement of model space views and different title block
information.
! ! TIPS: Double-click on Model/Layout to
make it current (so you can edit)

Use the ESC key to bail out of the current command. Press ENTER to accept the default action.
Command options appear in regular square brackets: [Close/Undo].
COMMAND WINDOW
• In command line everything must be entered through the
keyboard.
• After launching a command through any means command
line will prompt you what next step should be taken to
complete the command.
• Example: L for the LINE command and Ctrl + C for COPY
command.
